Re: The Model A
Got a new top for the distributor as that was somehow something I didn’t replace. Got a new rotor as the original top distorted the new rotor, now on my 3rd one.
I also bought a spring that holds the plates apart. I don’t think mine is bad but maybe it is.
We are gonna run basically a grounding strap as it’s just not getting power consistently to the distributor…or ground since it’s positive ground. It’s all confusing. Lol.
But hopefully we can figure this out Sunday so I can move on.

Re: The Model A
So I’m at the point that I need to check compression. I think it’s fine but I need to be sure.
So simple…go get the adapter. Crap….they are back ordered, nation wide.
Okay, it’s a 7/8 by 18. Call around. No one has it, not even napa hose. Everyone can order it…well guess I’m making my own.

Old plug, biggest adapter I have in my tester box.
Break out the porcelain and it will be easy….no. I hit it with the biggest sledge hammer we have at the fire hall. Nothing.
Okay, let’s try a blade for the fun of it.

Nope. Dull in 5 seconds.
Okay. I am not gonna get beat.
Enter a K12

Yeah. It will cut.

So I get home and I need to finish this. Now I know I need Diamond stuff. I go get some things.

Problem. It’s just a hair too big. And they don’t like metal.
But I also got a drill bit. I ruined it hitting the sides but I got it.

Epoxied the air Chuck into the spark plug and get to test it Sunday.

It took way more than it should have, cost way more than it should have, but it’s also something that is doable and always nice to do things that are doable.

Re: The Model A
So did the compression test. Numbers were as follows
Front
45psi
32/33psi
40psi
45psi
Rear
Apparently ideal is 64-76 but will run on as low as 25. I prob have a leaky valve but suppose I can get someone to grind it down in block and make it better.
Replaces the points and condenser again. Butttttt

But then this.

And this.

Sooooo with rebuilt water pump and no leaks, I guess I need to get my radiator cleaned.

Re: The Model A
Okay. So I tested the radiator flow. It seems pretty good. Dumped 1.5 gals of water out in around 3 seconds. So if we have good flow, new water pump, it’s only one thing. Head gasket. I know there is some seepage and that low compression number could also be part of it. So I’m gonna talk to a radiator shop about the radiator but likely gonna order a copper head gasket.

Re: The Model A
There is a radiator place in Knoxville that will test the radiator actually for 20 bucks. I’m gonna do that, get the stuff for the head gasket as well, and start reading up on how to fix the valve. Apparently it’s just grinding the end….but do all of that should fix the overheating.
Still need tires, generator, and tags.

Re: The Model A
Radiator OUT.

A while ago I found this funny spring. I asked the great grandpa if he knew. He didn’t. Well…the radiator sits in these. Same spring. So this radiator has been out for some reason or another.

The shroud basically just attaches to the radiator and nothing else. This whole time the fill cap as been off just a little bit from said shroud. Not enough to go looking but enough that I’ve talked about it with the LT here. Well here is prob why.

Came un leaded. Lol. I’m sure the radiator shop can fix that. I will take it Monday for them to test and fix if need be.

Dropped off the radiator. He said prob 250. Which is cheaper than the good replacements. He also did show me there was some trash right in one of the middle inner tubes. So it could be the problem.

Ordered the head gasket today. These guys are funny. The original gasket and other gaskets and what not. I am trying to do the most correct thing for the car. So I can enter it in survivor class. So I got the not best gasket. Lol.

Radiator placed called, told me the core was junk. Said he would rod it out and it would stop itself back up. So guess I’m looking for a new radiator.

Summit Racing sells aftermarket ones that look really good. Can even upgrade to aluminum too.

Re: The Model A
I see prices all over the place. Cheap eBay (that I’m sure will work) for 130. Lol. I really like as close to stock look as possible but that might also be something I change out later after we use the vehicle for a couple years.
Asking the Facebook group and really what the father in law wants to do as it’s his money and his car.

Got the radiator back, going to eventually put a core in it but in the meantime we bought a cheap eBay one to keep us moving forward.

Re: The Model A
The tale of 180 buck eBay radiator. We will get the original recored but that’s 1000-1200 bucks and time.
These brackets, that were not on the original, are causing a small problem. They don’t allow the radiator cover to sit where it should. That’s a problem for a couple things as the front of the hood attaches to it, and the fill is too low.

But I was happy with how the pole support fit. You can also see where the fill sits.

So when I cut those the radiator cover can come down where it needs to, then put the hood on, mark some holes and drill so the sport can stay.
The radiator came black and it should cover the top where you see the radiator. But will show some of the bottom.

My help isn’t here to pull it out but the holes line up. Hopefully it will cool.

Radiator in, hood back on…fitment is…shitty. But I let it run for a long time, through 3 good gals of gas. Didn’t overheat. Letting it sit and cool down and then after dinner restart and try and drive it.
