Lately I've been hearing this subtle weird noise from the drivetrain. I'm at a total loss on what it might be. It sort of sounds like a playing card in bicycle spokes. It's only when I'm coasting from ~35 mph on down to a stop. I can put the trans in neutral and still hear it. It goes away under acceleration. Both diffs have the right fluid level, and I drained and refilled the transfer case. It makes me wonder if one of the diffs or the transfer case has a gear issue. But I just can't pin it down.

The only other things I can think of trying is running it on jackstands, or sticking a GoPro under it in various places.

What do you guys think?

I had a noise that was like that, and then turned into a vibration in my Stealth. Turned out to be bad U-Joints on the driveshaft. Would only do it when the driveshaft wasn't loaded.

Hmm. I haven't noticed any unusual play in the driveshaft, but I'll check it again.

One of the front CV joints had a pinhole and lost some grease. I was wondering if it might be that. I really don't want to replace it because they're expensive and specific to 08-10 H3 V8. :grumble:

I really don't want to put any more money into this thing. I want to pay off my Corvette, then sell this and get something I actually like.

What about just rebooting it? Or since it’s clicking you think its already gone? Are the hubs always engaged?

My guess is ujoint. Coasting you take pressure off the drivetrain from the engine/tranny to the rear. Under acceleration you add pressure. Less pressure = more likely for something to be loose. Notice any vibrations other than the sound?

I'd do a new boot, but the boot kit for these things is like $60 per side. That's assuming nothing else is wrong internally. I just tried to seal it up for now.

I don't notice any other vibrations. It still drives fairly well for what it is.

The diffs usually whine, not what you describe, from reading online.

RockAuto has Dana U joints for $15-20. Maybe I'll do that once the weather gets nice enough that I can drive the Corvette. It's getting close.

I thought the Monti was starting to get a bad wheel bearing. Turns out my alignment was off and i was abnormally wearing the tire on the outside. Something as easy as your tires wear pattern would cause vibrations that appear in your drivetrain.

It probably wouldn't hurt to take it in for an alignment. We've got the lifetime deal with Firestone. I know we tweaked it during one of the off road trips. The steering wheel is slightly off center now.

I kind of thought about selling ours and buying an H3T. But if I'm going to do it, I'd rather just get a shorty Silverado.

I think an H3t would be a fair compromise

This guy has a really nice H3T. 6.2L, Rancho 4" lift, quite a few other rare and custom parts.

H3Ts hold their value. Especially V8s. If you can find a V8 with the off road package like our H3 has....$$$$.

This one has all the goodies. I actually think it's under priced.
