Yeah it’s not much different than the avalanche. Hell even the Tahoe (without cyl deactivation) does like 19/20 mpg on the hwy and 15ish in town. I’m sure it would be better if we let it shut down cyl.

You have a big truck. Surprised it doesn’t get 10mpg.

I figured it would be bad. I've driven and owned worse.

Would be curious though if an intake, exhaust, and tune would net a couple of mpg. Some say yes. Others no.

Not likely enough. Plus intakes concern me because they usually increase flow by reducing filtration.

Agree on the intakes. Nowhere near the gains we used to get. Oem intakes are very well designed now.

Today was a wish I had louder exhaust day. 50s and sunny so windows down. Wanted to angrily pass someone. They decided to stop in the middle of road instead of turning into the parking lot because they were waiting for someone to back up out of a spot they wanted.

Toying around with the idea of putting one of my CBs in the truck. Don't have any more lower profile antennas though. Just a tall Wilson metal one. Might pick up a firestick and mounting plate and install it. The metal one I have can reach about 7-10 miles easily but is really tall and a pain in the ass. Firestick can't reach that far but look better and are more durable. Could get a Wilson 2000 center load truck antenna, those can reach over 10 miles, but they are ugly and not as durable. Lol.

I've always had them in my jeeps. Had one in the silverado too. Grew up with them since my dad is a long haul truck driver. They also use them on active logging roads around here so good to have when in those areas since most roads are only wide enough for 1 vehicle. Every one I've had I used to still hear lots of people chatting so they are still in use, especially in cell phone dead spots which we have a few out here

They work great and are useful. That’s why I’m surprised they are still in use. Seems when something works well and liked….it gets outlawed or rules on it to switch to something else.

Still trying to think of something small I can do to make it more unique. I like the stock look for the most part but still feels like it's missing something. Can't quite figure out what to do about it. Lol

For those that don't know, Jason generously donated his original cluster to me to play with. :D I hooked it up tonight to start playing with it. I'll post a dedicated thread once I make some real progress. Right now the backlights come on and I can get it to briefly respond on the CAN bus, but it doesn't do much of anything useful.

I have two questions though.

One, what tools did you need to swap it out? I might go to the junkyard and try to get an electrical connector for it, and I want to make sure I bring the right tools. GM has these little 7mm screws that hold most of their dashboards together.

Did your truck have around 37,122 miles on it when you swapped out the cluster? Even though I can't get the odometer to light up yet, there's a CAN message that seems to be reporting 59743 km. 37122 miles.

Yes to the mileage approximately.

How to remove the cluster - 7 mm screws just like gm if I remember right. Panels easier to remove than gm was but might want to bring a panel removal tool or flat head screwdriver as well. I want to say there are 7-8 total screws that will need removed.

Oh and electrical connector is just behind the cluster kind of sitting on the top right. I think he mentions it in the video.

It's cool if you want to do that, but I don't think you need to go to the trouble. If Ford's pricing is anything like GMs, then buying a pigtail will be outrageous. It looks like most contemporary Fords use the same connector. There's quite a few at the local junkyards.

Thanks. That confirms the 2nd schematic I found.
