Metal casting

Post by DCIV »

Anyone do it?

I’ve seen it done, but I need to do it.

The model A we’ve decided is gonna be called “Dale” after its owner. I have already ordered her signature cut out of wood. I know I need special sand, and those special bricks with a crucible. I’ve watched a few videos on it but was just curious if anyone here has actually done it?

Goal is to make a small “Dale” and just make it out of something magnetic so I don’t have a hard time mounting it on the Car. Then polish it up best I can. Just a little touch.

Ok this is the most Coop thing ever... You are not even making the icing before baking the cake, not the strawberries for the top of the icing.. you are lighting the candles!

You're nuts :p

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Find some old aluminum 3S part to melt down for donor metal. That would be poetic. I've probably got a couple of throttle bodies that would do the trick.

I want it magnetic though. That would be poetic.

I don't think so. Pretty sure I chucked that lump as a complete assembly. The only engine parts I know I have left are the coil and MAF.

Steel is going to be harder to do. Just do aluminum and use some emblem tape.

You aren’t melting steel at home easily bud.

Iron melts at 2800F. You need special equipment for that.

Aluminum is at like 1250F. Way easier to melt at home, but you’ll still need a proper forge to do it.

You both are right about the temp. Aluminum will prob be what I do it in.
