Will they fit?

Post by DCIV »

2020 silverado brakes on the avalanche. Will they fit?

https://youtu.be/PlJXBzKSFCQ

They are out of stock of calipers at rock auto. Tempted to try https://www.ebay.com/itm/385202066201?m ... &media=SMS

Doubt I can return this. I don’t see any at autozone or advance auto.

Thoughts? He gives measurements in the video but I feel like he subtracts at the end when he should be adding. I don’t care to run small spacer to get some much nicer brakes.

Okay. So here is what I’m tempted to do.

Get them, if they don’t fit then they will on the wife’s Tahoe easily. So then I could just use the wife’s on the avalanche.

Win win.

Where are you guys. Coop is running the garage and no one’s keeping him in check.

Bought these.

Any idea how much a brake caliper sticks out from the rotor? Like the top of the rotor is almost the top of the brake caliper but the sides arnt the same. Just trying to figure out if these will fit behind 18” wheels.

All depends on the caliper. On the Brembo 4 piston calipers the distance it sticks out from the rotor radially is around 26.5 to 30mm from the drawings I've found. As for the width of the caliper, the Brembo 4 pistons stick out 71-72mm from the centerline of the rotor.

It looks like the rotors on 19-22 Silverados are 13.5" so I would think it would fit under an 18" wheel, since 18" wheels almost always will clear 14" rotors. I think your biggest potential clearance issue will be the width of the caliper, and if the mounting points are the same.

According to Google they are 15” rotors.

Ain't no way in hell those are fitting under 18s

13.5 for non brembo equipped trucks. You didn't buy brembo calipers.

Well good as I want to fit these. Lol. The brakes on this truck are just sucky. Rotors can’t be turned so I would have to get new rotors anyways. But if they don’t fit I’m sure they will fit on the Tahoe and I’m sure the Tahoe will fit on the avalanche. Or if they just don’t I bet I can get most my money back.

Can someone watch that YouTube video I posted. Very early on he put down some measurements. But he subtracted them, I feel like he should have added them. Maybe I just miss understood what he was doing.

What makes brembo so great. Honest question. Is it like setrab where they release some sort of spec or something?

They made a name for themselves in performance applications and their fixed calipers are quasi synonyms with performance upgrades. Many mfgs make 4,6,8+ piston fixed calipers, Brembo has just done a good job of marketing themselves as 'the' OE performance brake supplier.

17" in rims may be close, but I think it still should fit as I think some people ran 17" rims on EvoX's and they have 14" rotors.

They have the most race experience and equip everything from cars like my RS to Formula 1 cars. They're very light, and very strong, which is everything you want in a caliper. They also own AP Racing brakes now too. There is a reason all the high end performance vehicles, supercars, hypercars, MotoGP, F2 and F3, and the best teams in F1 use Brembo :D

Interesting, I know Stop Tech was bought out by Raybestos years ago now. Is Alcon still independent or are they owed by some corporate monolith too?

Okay. Let’s pivot a little.

Why are 4 pistons much better? Just more and equal pressure on a brake pad? Does it get more scientific?

Coop
Yes and additionally fixed calipers tend to be less flexible than sliding calipers. This gives you better control and more linear braking forces.

Coop
What Chris said. 4 piston calipers give equal pressure on both sides, and can provide more force easily. With a sliding caliper, you are applying force to 1 side of the rotor, and then that reaction causes the caliper to slide on the pins and pull the outer pad into the rotor. It works, but it's not as effective as putting pressure on the rotor from both sides.
