Man so much went into this. Had to put it in ignition timing, had to cut and splice some wires, just a whole lot of trial and error.
Still need some stuff. But this is progress.

Re: The Model A
The follow up. In no order

Pulleys don’t line up, don’t know if I need to shim the generator or crank bolt is loose.

Filter going into the carb. Nice to see it clean.

The rotor that came out is it and it ran on…since I broke the other new one.

Directions said to bend to get .025 clearance….it didn’t let me even try to bend.

The spark plugs it ran on.

Plug out, distributor assembled

This is some throttle thing that goes into the distributor. It’s made so you wind it up a bit before you put it on, then twist it on. Before me though someone cut it, screwed it on, then just twisted and taped the wires together. It worked. But when I tried to do it correct it all came apart. Also wires inside were freyed. So I had to cut back more and make it right. I thought I bought a new one but I bought the wrong thing.

Bottom plate installed and you can also see that spring and how it was jumbled together.

This is hard to tell but this was fun. This is how you out it in ignition time. See the one thing that has the threads sticking out. The other side is a point. You put it in, then turn the motor over till it finds a spot in the cam. Then you can point things correctly in the distributor.

Started right up on gas. Like RIGHT up.
Couple issues. One, my throttle return spring is broke. Sucked to find that out lol. Also watch how fast it SUCKED that fuel. Floats prob stuck open.
Also I still can’t figure out the crank pulley. Had someone come by with just a frame and motor to a model A. Took measurements. Same size pulley, same distance to the timing housing, everything. Same. Don’t understand why mine isn’t lined up. Also the belt would not go on. I need a longer one but that’s not what it calls for. Kind of confused.

Figured out the carb. Talked to the shop that specializes in the rebuild of that carb. He’s getting me together a rebuild package with inline fuel filter.
Also it doesn’t smell anymore and will prob bring it to the house.

Re: The Model A
Sounds like you're making steady progress.
How does the rest of it look at a glance? Trans, brakes, all that. Think it'll move under it's own power once you get the engine sorted?

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

The clutch works. Just bump the starter in gear and then also push in the clutch when in a gear and I know it works dont know how well. It goes through the gears but its a strait cut gear trans. It would be hard to mess up. The rear diff shows a lot of leakage after the fill (maybe drain) bolt. So should be interesting. The brakes stop it as we found if I hook up the winch to it before I pull it in, then I can get everything nice and strait, but only works if someone is in the car to stop it.
It will prob get tires as well.

Talked to the place that sells the rebuild stuff for the carb. He sent me a ton of info about it. Also get this, he mailed it and wants me to mail a check when I get it. Lol. Who does that.
Also have a good game plan for the tank.

Re: The Model A
I have one more order that should show up soon. A throttle spring, a carb float level (sits outside the carb so you know where the carb is at), a whole shut off valve and big mesh filter that goes in the tank, and some gas gauge gaskets.
After cleaning the tank I will prob rebuild the gas gauge, if possible, but I was recommended to change those gaskets before cleaning the tank.
Going to go tomorrow and take the carb off the model a while it’s in the trailer (that will be hard to do), so I can take it into work Thursday and rebuild it then. That way when I get to bring in the car Sunday to work I don’t spend the entire time working on the carb when I really want to be working on the tank.

Right?! These are suppository the most correct plugs you can get for the model a. I really wanna use the old ones as they are just cool. And I might after I get it running and clean those up.
Honestly if I can get the carb rebuild and gas tank cleaned out then the hard part is over. A generator rebuild and waterless water pump, with some new tires would be all thats left.

Re: The Model A
Opened to see what it looked like before cleaning.
After cleaning.
The part on the right is just fuel hose. It’s what came out of the carb while cleaning. It’s what the black thing on the left will go in, it’s the fuel shut off part. I don’t think that’s the way it was from factory and could have been my problem when giving the car fuel. But maybe that’s what they did use.
Pretty much back together. One lock washer was broken when taking apart. I have enough at home that I know I am replace it. So that and then tighten it down. Tempted to just just a hair amount of fuel safe silicone. These carbs are cast aluminum and they get a slight bow to them. I took a file and got the high spots, it’s much much better but still a little. Maybe I should, maybe I shouldn’t. Don’t know yet.
