I'd rather have the 6.0 but I think the Allison advantage outweighs the engine disadvantage
What about Allison with duramax vs 6.0 w/ 4l80e?
Price of a 8.1 and dmax seems to be about the same.

Re: Going to need a tow/haul rig
After this weekend, yes, I need something.
Rented a van (reserved weeks ago). Go to get van. Not there. Had to go to a different uhaul. Finally get van. Instead of 250 now $300.
Luckily they had one or I would have had to get a box truck and it would have been $500+.

Kind of like this idea but wonder if I should look at getting an extended cab at least.

Unless you get a locking tool box you don't have a lot of secure storage with a regular cab

That's my only concern really.
Don't want or need a crew cab. Extended cab might be nice though. Just a little extra room for stuff.

Even Danielle does.
Simple, does the job, not too many miles for a diesel. Just not sure about regular cab or not.

It’s good enough and just get a good secured locking toolbox in the bed and call it good. Or a shell or a tonneau cover….

Need to see if that is a good price. It's not close by so would be a full day trip

Danielle is going to be near that white truck this weekend. Might have her take a look at it.

Hardest part about this is finding something local that isn't either abused to hell or lifted/modified.

Id assume anything that you are gonna buy to tow or haul .also was used to tow or haul.

Difference between used to tow/haul and beaten to hell/neglected or highly modified.

Re: Going to need a tow/haul rig
Compared the red 01 to the white 02 on fuelly. If I drive them 5000 miles a year, even though the red one is $3000 more, the mpg of the white 8.1 is so bad I would save money getting the red one in as little as 2 years.

Yeah that's the biggest problem with the 8.1 it drinks more than a drunken sailor lol
