Re: 2020 C8 Corvette Stringray
I'm guessing if I ordered one similar to my Stingray, it'd be around $140,000. That's more than I want to spend on a car, so I'm happy to stick with what I already have.

The price for the top model ZR1 or Zora or whatever they end up calling it is going to be breathtaking.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Yeah, going to be a shock for those people who thought the high end version would start around $110,000. lol. I bet ZR1/Zora is a lot closer to $200,000. GM knows there are some who will pay that, and the Stingray was priced too low for what it offers. They are going to make up the money on the high end.

Re: 2020 C8 Corvette Stringray
I still contend this is partially the result of the car being late. Between the economy, the huge market premiums dealers were getting, and GM having to amortize the cost across fewer years of production, they pretty much had to do this.

I also think they’re pushing into a different class of car too. I mean I would say even at like $150’k fully optioned, it’s going to rival cars twice its cost for performance. Will be interesting to see though if people are really willing to spend that much (and even more for the “ZR1”
.

It'll be interesting to see once the independent media comparisons finally come out. GM benchmarked the Ferrari 458. A car that ended production when the C7 was still new.
I don't really care how it sorts out though. I'm just enjoying watching the so-called community twist itself into knots over this stupid thing.

There are a fair amount of people that would argue the 458 was the last great mid engined V8 Ferrari. So even though its 2 designs ago now from Ferrari, I think the C8Z will tug at the heart strings of those people. Though you dont really buy a Ferrari for performance, and the C8Z doesnt really check any of those boxes either. Will be interesting to see the market for the C8Z, given the lack of tuneability (I assume at least), and the high price point.

Itll be interesting to see how it all goes down thats for sure.

You can tune to some extent, but it is all with piggybacks. Welcome back to the '90s and modding Japanese cars.
The Z06 will have more power than the 458 had, and the handling seems to be pretty on-par with the 458 once you set the C8 up with a track alignment (there's some understeer with the factory alignment). I think it'll be pretty competitive, but once you start crossing that $120,000 mark then you have to start looking at some other nice cars too.
I'm sure GM will sell every Z06 they can manage to build, and I wouldn't mind having one - its just that for as little as I actually drive, I can't really justify spending that kind of money above what I've got into the Stingray. The Stingray is super fun to drive, and is plenty quick for any kind of street driving.

You mean in general staged upgrades, and not GM. A lot pf shops still have the staged upgrades thing. Not a lot you can do on a C8 though. The ecu programming seems to be quite good from the factory.

I don't see why they would. What's the upside for GM to do it?

Re: 2020 C8 Corvette Stringray
But there's not that much point. This isn't a car where you can easily squeeze out a bunch of power. All the various transmission tunes that you'd want are already baked into the mode selector (Weather/Tour/Sport/Track/Performance-Traction, etc). The folks who claimed they found a way to flash a tune into the C8 reported very little was left on the table, and they couldn't make much more than stock.
The stock ECU adapts pretty well to intake/exhaust mods on its own by using the factory widebands to keep fuel where it needs to be. But gains aren't huge because the factory setup is actually really damn good.
I saw a shop (ETS/Cicio?) recently put a pair of turbos on and were running something like 6 psi of boost and the stock ECU. I think they made around 600 at the wheels with that. They offer MoTEC as a piggyback option if you want to tune.
GM doesn't want to sell tunes - they want to sell cars. Z06 if you want some more power and more exotic. ZR1/Zora if you want even more power.

Re: 2020 C8 Corvette Stringray
Watching all the people bitch about the price of the Z06 on Corvette Forums is kinda funny. Like nobody saw it coming that GM would want more profit out of the special edition cars when dealers are marking up the Stingray $20-30k.

The dealers were just showing GM how much they underpriced the car.
So GM fixed the glitch.

It reminds me when British Airways looked at the price of Concorde tickets, and realized they could actually charge like $10k per ticket in the late 90s for a ticket, and people still paid it. And they went from losing money, to making money on the flights

First oil change was successful. Same filter as on the C7. They redesigned the dry sump system so that there's just a single drain plug, but it is really long and has an o-ring near the tip and another o-ring at the hex, so I guess the two flow channels for oil get plugged by the same bolt instead of two bolts.
Pretty easy - good access from underneath, no issues at all. Filling/checking is done through a hole in the engine cover that is plugged with a rubber piece normally. About 7.8 quarts of the GM spec'd Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40.
A 4-post lift sure makes this job much easier.
2908 miles on it.
