When they initially came out they were quite the sleeper. Now pretty much every family sedan has a 300hp option.

Don’t know why but I expected a bigger work table for all those gears.

Yea funny how the last decade has changed things. Even compact SUV’s are hot little rides now.

True but newer cars are also a bit heavier. 10 years added 3-400 lbs to the Maxima

It would have been nice but I made it work.

It runs. Shifts great. Need to look into a lack of fuel issue. MAF only get to 135 g/s. Should be well over 200. It feels lean above 3k.

Pulled the uego out of my pile of mustang parts to monitor afr. She's lean up to about 5k then drops to 12.8-13.2 at wot to redline. I can accept that but the mid-range lean is definitely noticable. It's got the classic timing pull "stutter".

My current injectors flow roughly 330cc at my stock fp. Currently waiting on a set of vq37 injectors that'll flow 385cc. That should put me right at the point where I can use an afc to adjust and gain some timing.

The plan on the future is to use romraider and nisprog to tune the stock ecm. (Basically the Nissan equivalent to chromed ecu but damn near free and open source) unless I decide to go stand alone so I can utilize the variable exhaust cam timing that's just sitting idle right now.

Otherwise I hit 1k miles on the swap today. There's a slight oil leak at the rear timing cover that I didn't pull and reseal. Oh well. If I don't blow the engine up by next summer I'll pull it and reseal.

Yea fix that lean spot. Good to hear programming is open source. I never got the chance to tinker with the Z32 I had. With basic mods she pulled hard and would put you into a tail spin.

Been a while since I updated...

New headers. Obx garbage was garbage. Sounded very "tinny" and just didn't like them. Maxima shop had these made last year. 1.75" primaries, 2.75" y-pipe. Nice thick stainless and flanges. VS 1.6" primaries and 2.5" y.

Fixed the oil leak. I must have broken the silicone seal at the rear timing cover to head either when I pulled it at pick n pull or dropped it in.

Image

Thought about putting cams in it too but came to my senses. This is supposed to be a daily.

I did put some ARP rod bolts and king bearings. They have been known to come apart when driven hard all the time.

Did the front control arm bushings and motor mounts in poly. Nice thing about this car is when you can find stuff that's pretty much been out of production for years it's dirt cheap. Picked up the bushings for under half of retail.

And wheels. Light wheels are coming soon. 350 track v1 wheels. 18x8.5 weighing 18.62 lbs. Forged rays. Pretty much te37s with some slight changes but built for Nissan.

I did have to buy 2 sets so I have a spare 18x8 set to use elsewhere.

What the loop in the downpipe? Don’t know why that’s needed. Looks like it connects to both sides? Is that some sort of equal length stuff?

Yes it's for making them equal length. With a transverse engine you have to artificially make the rear bank travel as far as the front. Turbo Subaru equal length headers (pre FA) will do the same thing.

So the parts in the top of the photo are the OBX junk and the ones in the bottom are the new hotness?

I like those wheels. They're simple and straightforward without being boring. I think elegant is the right word.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Yes it's to get the lengths as close to equal as possible.

Correct. The one on top came out. They had been on there for a little over a year. I've had the new ones on for about 3 months now and love them.

I had been thinking about the wheels for a while and almost bought a set last year but decided not to. They came up again and I figured why not. Now my question is do I lower it at all? Tein does have basic coilovers for it but I really don't want to go too low. Though I do want a slightly stiffer suspension and word is the tein are very nice.

This is probably a little lower than I want.
