Swapping batteries

Post by Duck Vader »

Ample: https://ample.com

Their idea is to make batteries for electric cars that can be swapped out at stations instead of recharging. The design apparently allows them to install their own interface tray under an electric car that allows for their own battery to be put in that uses the same specs as the original factory battery. Car manufacturers would not need to change much if anything on their end. Ample then lifts its own standardized battery trays into the interface using robots. Says it takes 10 min to do a full battery swap. Far faster than current recharge times.

Interesting idea but given how different each vehicle is I'm not sure if feasible.

Seems kind of unnecessary, since most driving that people do is well within the distances that most electric cars can go on a single charge.
