Bit of a sceptic here. I see no fill material is used. How are they guaranteeing uniform weld penetration? Otherwise everything will have to be a butt welded if you aren't going to compromise parent material. Even then its no guarantee. How do they mitigate oxidation in the joint. Is it just the power of the laser that displaces the oxygen?

In the video I saw them using shielding gas. I'd assume that if you are in a situation where you need filler, then you could add it similar to TIG.

Why didnt they show using filler material? Virtually all properly done welds require it.

I can only guess they were trying to flex their penetration capabilities. :shrug:
