The pre 2017 Acadia it is possible, even in our Explorer is was doable, but it was much easier to push the button that folded the second row captains chair down to get back there, that's for sure. Plus with the way the pre 2020 Explorers were, there were no center arm rests, unless you had the center counsel which was really annoying.
Yeah this was a pre-2017 Acadia. Makes sense. I was actually playing with the idea for a while to get one of those with captains, rip the 3rd row out completely and have a 4 seater to haul crap haha.

That's what I did with my Sequoia most of the time. The 3rd row was in the way most of the time. Since it was removable I just left it out unless I knew I needed the extra seats.
FYI captains chairs in the 2nd row do not make it any easier to access the 3rd row. We ended up getting the center counsel for the Explorer in the 2nd row because it was useless to get the 3rd row between the 2nd row.
Interesting. So basically I need to find one that has the caption chairs in the 2nd row, show her we can’t get back there with two car seats and then switch it up and get a vehicle that doesn’t have 3rd row at all!! Brilliant!
If you want to tow more than 5000lbs you basically need an Expedition/Tahoe/Yukon.
Was hoping with the v6 ecoboost from the f150 they might make it possible somehow. Oh well. That would have been too perfect.

Ideally if she gets the Tahoe, drives it fir 5yrs, I will take it, 5 yes, then sell the avalanche and resort the Tahoe to boat/winter duty. But that’s all in theory.

It is available in the explorer but the chassis/suspension limits it.

The 2012-2019 Explorer 3rd row folds flat, and this is the way we have it 99% of the time. Only time 3rd row is up is when my parents/her mom visits, or we're driving to Michigan so the dogs can sit back there.
Interesting. So basically I need to find one that has the caption chairs in the 2nd row, show her we can’t get back there with two car seats and then switch it up and get a vehicle that doesn’t have 3rd row at all!! Brilliant!
Anything the size of an Explorer or bigger is most likely going to have a 3rd row standard. Pretty sure 3rd row is standard on Explorer/Traverse/Tahoe/Expedition/Acadia etc.

This. At least in our Explorer while it is the TT 3.5V6, it is the "FWD" version. The new 2020 Explorers now have the RWD version, but like Chris said the Explorer being a unibody limits the towing capacity. The Expedition with the TT 3.5V6 will basically be similar to F150s for towing capacity as it has a regular frame (it's ~9,000lbs. in the Expedition where the F150 maxes out 13,200lbs.).

Why not throw the Durango in there while you are at it. V8, 3 rows with captain option, 3,500 - 8,700lbs tow, 290 -710 Hp.

Durango with the V8 is a great option too. My sister and brother in law have the V6 one (there second of this generation), and have had no issues with either one.

3rd row is tiny (Lexus actually says its only for kids), and there's zero cargo area with the 3rd row up. Great trucks other than that.

Yea, we really liked our test drive of the R/T a couple years back. Tight suspension and lots of power. MDS gave 20+mpg too.

Acadia is complete garbage but if you plan on replacing it every 2-3 years and don't mind taking it into the shop for warranty every few months... Go for it. They have a nice false premium feel.

First and 2nd rows are much nicer and the fold flat seats for the 3rd row are great for people who need them on occasion.

I don't think it bothers me too much if Car and Driver is watching me and posting articles to all their followers based on my search history

That article reminds me my wife seems to want a Subaru Ascent and I'm trying to convince her to at least look at the Telluride/Palisade twins.

Is it bad that I would rather have a used Tahoe than a new telluride?
