[quote=""DCIV""]Can you do a fresh hone and rings with new bearings? That would basically be rebuilding as it doesnt need to be balanced because your not changing anything.

I forget they are made like that. Crazy that even works as well as it does.

It's really what makes them so much fun to drive. It's compact and low center of gravity just gives it different dynamics than a typical small suv.

What’s the goal of this vehicle? Just a grocery getter? A vehicle to take the mileage off of your truck?

Something just to mess around with. And my parents are planning to flat tow it behind their RV on occasion.

Re: Oh no, what have I done...
yeah I'm actually leaning towards the block was replaced at some point. I haven't gotten the calipers out to see if its been machined
Re: Oh no, what have I done...
I wouldn’t worry about those at all. They look great. Now get it running.

Normal. I've pulled heads off 300k mile Subarus with similar cross hatch.
They usually burn due to sticking rings. The last one I pulled apart all 4 pistons had stuck rings. New rings, break glaze, reassemble. Went from 3+qts consumption to under .5qt in 3k miles.

Honestly that's my biggest concern about the short block. I'll get it back together and it will drink oil

Is there a way to get check those rings now without splitting the block? Or clean the carbon off them with some sea foam or something?

Re: Oh no, what have I done...
Spent a lot of time today cleaning up the block and getting it ready for mounting the heads.

Re: Oh no, what have I done...
Thinking about getting this since the torque procedure for the head bolts calls for degrees not necessarily a specific torque number. https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-dri ... 64916.html
