Why do you care about the speedo so much? Should be able to fix it with a Dakota digital chip or something
Its not the speedo I care about, its the rpms at given speed.
With 4:56 @ 65 your turning 3360rpm but if you have 1.5 taller tire then its like 4:10s @65 which is 3020. Hence why I want 4:56 gears but 1.5 taller tire so its like I have 4:10 gears and 65 isnt horrible. But I cant get that without a lift so it honestly looks like I sill do 4:10s and stock size tires. Orrrrr, just thought of this. Have a set of tires for winter that are the bigger ones, but if Im going to tow, have a set of road tires that are stock size. Hmmmmmm.

You're way over thinking this.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

The first step is acknowledging you have a problem.

I guess main question is this. Im doing gears to give the vehicle an easier time on the trans and give me more power for towing. If the bigger wheels make the speed work out would I notice any more power or would it be like stock gears and stock tires? If I figure that out then I think I can pick my gears accordingly.

Re: Avalanche
Think of the entire driveline as a set of gears. From the engine, through the trans, the transfer case, the axles, and the tires. Do the math for all those and you'll see how much torque you apply to the pavement.
That's ultimately what you're trying to figure out for towing. How much torque you can apply to get your load moving.
If you change your tires to help with the highway RPM, then you're going to reduce how much torque you're putting down from a standstill. You'll be right back where you started. You can't change the two values independently.

Re: Avalanche
If you do gears and bigger tires it'll be like you did nothing. If you do gears but leave the tires alone you'll reach your goal of making pulling a hill easier but your cruise rpm will be higher. You can't get both short gearing and low cruise rpm unless you add some gears to the trans or somehow make 4th in the trans taller.

All of this. One of the main reasons people put in taller gears when they put bigger tires on, is to maintain "stock driveability" with regards to toque to the ground.

Re: Avalanche
Yep. Did that with the jeep. Wasn't about more power. It was about making it usable again.
Re: Avalanche
That’s what I figured, if the speed works out the same then the torque to the ground is the same.
So I guess I will go with 4:10’s and prob stock sized tires .

Ran two extension cords over the the avalanche to plug up the trickle charger. The charger shows if the battery is 0-50 or 50-100. The battery was 0-50. I need a different option.
First would be just a bigger better battery.

Take the hill you complain so much about and put it to work for you.
Build a water wheel and hook it up to a spare alternator.

Its funny you say that as weve joked about stupid things like that over the years.
I just need to get more than 3 weeks out of a battery. Maybe thats good. I dont know. But I know I need more.

3 weeks doesn't sound right. I don't suppose you've checked for a parasitic drain, have you?

No. It does get started up and shut down at least once a weekend. Just not long enough to recharge it.

Re: Avalanche
Check for a draw on the battery, but you have to drive it longer to ensure it has time to charge the battery.
Re: Avalanche
Solar panel on the roof, wired direct into the battery.
