Re: Avalanche
I fixed it.
My theory was correct. It rotates the third byte of the mileage through each of ten different memory locations to minimize wear and tear on the EEPROM cells. The location it uses at any given time is determined by the value of the first two bytes of the mileage. I think most people were content with having their mileage close enough. The worst case error is ~25 miles.

This was just to test my theory. I swear.

Does anyone else really love old school vacuum florescent displays? They look so much better than LCDs.

I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Re: Avalanche
I would like to upgrade my gauge cluster/display. Really dull. Could be a bit brighter. In the daytime you can barely see the gear selection. Have to go off feel.
Re: Avalanche
Love this! Can’t wait to do this, the gears, the trans switch, and some tires!! Be ready for anything!

Re: Avalanche
You did this to check trans temp, right? I wonder what my temp ranges since I have the "heavy duty" towing packing with the extra trans temp cooler and all that.

I had a digital one that plugs into my obd port that Ive been watching my radiator, trans, mph, and I forget. But its low and in my center console.
You need to know if your trans cooler is just a line through the radiator (from the forums this is pointless) or a stand alone unit. I have a stand alone unit and they say you will see 100 degrees above outside temp. But its Deff something you need to watch.

Re: Avalanche
Pretty sure it is a stand alone unit. For some reason I am blanking out on it. Will check later out of curiosity.

Yeah, those old VFDs do look pretty slick.
But I wouldn't go back from the big LCD panel cluster on all of our Chevys.

Re: Avalanche
Audi and McLaren nailed the LCD dash concept. The newer Mercedes aren't bad either.
I can't figure out how GM managed to do this in the old, boring XTS...

But then picked this boring ass skin for the C8.

Re: Avalanche
Yeah, the dash is a bit underwhelming. Hoping maybe a software update makes it a little flashier at some point.

Re: Avalanche
If the dash in the C8 is anything like my screens in my RS it may have some stuff loaded on it already. Just changed my sync theme to the same as the Ford GT cause it looks sooo much better, but I lose the RS boot image (has the GT image). So I changed it back.

Re: Avalanche
Tire sizes are pissing me off.
So when I change gearing I don’t want to go to small and regret it later. 1.5 inches in height is about the offset to keep the speed the same when going from 3.73 to 4:10 or 4:10 to 4:56. So if I went just with 4:10’s and ended up with 35’s then it would be exactly what I have now. Almost defeat the purpose (or maybe not, maybe overall tire size doesn’t make the vehicle feel slower and the gearing will still feel like an increase?) my thought was to go with 4:56 and run as close as I could to 35’s and so it would be like a 4:10 truck, which was a factory option. But 33’s seem to be about all you can fit without a lift. 285/70/r17 is the max I can run, maybe bigger if I go with “Ford” keys. That’s a 33 inch size tire. But seeing as I’m running 265/70r17 now it’s really not that much more. So seems like 4:56’s are just a little to much and 4:10’s will just give me a little more than my 3.73 but not as much as even a stock 4:10 truck.
Frustrating to say the least as I want 4:10 gearing with upsized tires.
I will keep searching and figure this out.

Re: Avalanche
Why do you care about the speedo so much? Should be able to fix it with a Dakota digital chip or something
