There's a good chance Coop's gonna get his trans temp gauge.

Today is my day in the office. During lunch I decided to run by the nearby junkyard to grab a trim piece for my sister-in-law's car. I didn't plan on looking for clusters, but on my way out I saw a truck that had just been set down today. I took a look, and it was a 2005 6.0L with a trans temp gauge. Score!

Problem was, I had NO tools. Just a small pry bar to get the trim piece for the Mazda.

These clusters are impossible to come by, so...I ran over to O'Reilly, got a small adjustable wrench and worked those damn 1/4" screws out.

I also decided to get the plug for it. How to cut the harness? Use the sharp edge on the pry bar :D

$30 later, I've got a cluster and I'm on my way back to work. :)

Half the fun is finding interesting stuff like that. It's like a treasure hunt. Sometimes it's a hunt you don't even know you're going on.

I keep saying I'm going to make one. I never do. I really need to go through my tools, figure out what I've got duplicates of, and make a travel/junkyard set.

This looks good with just some Windex. It was pretty grungy when I got it.

I'm honestly shocked you don't have a tool kit in your car for things like this.. You disappoint me, Jeff!

If you really want to make plastic look great, use Novus #1 on it if there aren't any scratches, Novus #2 if there are (and then follow up with #1). I use that on my pinball machine plastics all the time. Great stuff.

That's good to know. I don't think this one needs it, but I think there's one on the Hummer I could use to fix up.

I checked Row52 today. The truck still isn't listed. That's odd.

They mislabel things all the time. Once had a 3000gt as a mighty max. I was like WTF?

I dumped the EPROM from the cluster last night. Got everything fixed up except for the mileage. Coop needs it set to 106881. But it keeps going to 106905. I think I know why though. I'm gonna test my theory a little more today. It's not related, but someone has been in this cluster before. There's some gnarly re-soldering work on some of the big resistors for the odometer and gear displays.

Here's the donor truck if anyone is curious.

That’s just a little mileage, I can go for a drive. That is odd though.
