So does that mean the vehicle comes to a stop on the interstate when it pulls up behind one of these cars? F that noise.

PS I thought you were wanting to get a California plate. I was like "yea, he done gone too far left now". Glad to see you're alright.

Surely if you are traveling above 3-5mph it’s not gonna slam on its brakes to make a stop sign.

I think it's supposed to gradually slow down. But since I don't know for sure, it's not something I'll do. The possibility of causing an accident is just too much.

Yea the liability for doing something like that isn’t worth it.

Sooo...I've been getting tired of the hesitation in the engine. It's especially noticeable since I've been running the AC more. I hooked up the scan tool and I can actually watch the misfires on cylinder 2 increment in real time. There's even a lifetime misfire counter. Cylinder 2 was something like 43,000. The other 4 cylinders were 3 or low 4 digit values. No bueno.

Even though it's not a direct injected engine, it could be due to significant carbon build up. Well, it's got 180k miles, so that's a definite possibility. GM has this engine top end cleaner, but you need some pricey special tools to use it.

But Sea Foam has this newer kit with a little nozzle guide that slips inside the intake hose and positions the jet directly in front of the throttle blade. So I set the scan tool to hold the idle at 2k and fogged it. I let soak for a bit, and then took it for the old Italian tune up.

I never got that satisfying cloud of black smoke, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciated. But it does seem better. I'm going to give it a week or two and then maybe hit it with another can. Hopefully it's not just a placebo effect.

It says 7 minutes to empty it. It took me at least 10.

I need to try that stuff. Is the spray better than the regular can?

I think so. On previous cars I've done the trick of having it suck the liquid in through one of the vacuum ports. This is more evenly distributed.

I’ve always done the vac ports. I’m gonna have to look into this diff way.

I’ll have to buy a spray can then. I have a regular can but haven’t used it yet.

I totally forgot to mention the interesting part. I had to take the resonator box off in order to pull the intake couplers off. Something had made a nest under there. I found some scraps of dried grass and chewed up firewall insulation along with some empty nutshells. No rodent carcass, thankfully. It's relatively new, since it wasn't there the first time I took the box off to diagnose the misfire issue.

Wonder how well that Seafoam stuff would work on the Explorer and RS since they are both direct injected :chin:

I probably wouldn't bother with either one since they're both new. I wouldn't even think about running it through the Corvette at this stage.

It would probably work a little, but doubt it would seriously break up the carbon. I can try it on my wrx maybe and see how it does. My valves are probably terrible, 80k and it’s never been done. I’m starting to get some knock events and I’m 90% sure that’s what it is. I just need room in the garage to work on it.
