Lawn mower blades

Post by DCIV »

Anyone ever change theirs? I love my air tools, never really had much of a problem with them. I have a scag 61” deck mower, could not get a single blade off of it. Like seriously. Yes I know some are reverse thread, I checked mine isnt. Pretty sad about it honestly.

I've always just sharpened them on the mower. I've removed them in the past but never really need to

Didn’t look like enough room to do that? I’ve never sharpened any before so maybe you know something I don’t?

They have tools you can use to sharpen them on the mower. However it is best to remove them, especially on a larger mower so you can make sure they are even and balanced. I just have a push mower but my parents had a rider and I remember removing them and using a table grinder on them.

I currently use something like this

Smith's 50603 Mower Blade Sharpener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VTO5N2G/re ... 1EbJEW1YG9

And I can sharpen them on the mower.

Always taken mine off to sharpen. Not hard to do. Use a leather glove like Jeff said. They aren't going to be that sharp anyway. That way you can make sure they are mostly balanced. Even on a small 22" mower, its best to get them balanced. I just hang it on a bolt in the middle and see if it falls either direction to determine if it is balanced.

Hmmmm. I put a socket in the bottom and my impact on top and hit it hard. Nothing happened.

Maybe your impact sucks? I mean, mine is just a walk behind, but I use a 3/8 battery impact to remove my blade without issue.

I've never had issues getting my blade off my mower, had to use an impact, but always came off with ease. :d ontknow:

Why are you trying to do maintenance on the free mower shouldn't you just throw it out?

Put the mower in the garage. Let it soak with PB blaster. Still not budging. At this point I’m thinking something is wrong with my impact.

It’s more that I need one below to hold and one above to turn and that’s hard to do by myself.

Can't just block the blade with a block of wood and twist it off with a breaker bar?
