$10k Full Size Truck - Are there any good ones?

I would hope it would feel quicker. Toyotas are sub 300hp. Still the 5.0 is much more efficient and puts out more than 50hp over the last 2 years of the F150 5.4's.

I also think Ford stepped up their programming as the transmission shifts and throttle response is quicker and more accurate for any given load changes.

Yeah in a straight up drag race of course. The biggest thing is the 5.4 feels lazy because it doesn't want to rev like the 5.0, but it doesn't have to. The 5.4 makes its torque much lower in the rev range. Given the price point he's looking at I don't think he'll find a 5.0 truck.

It’s Jason...pretty soon it’ll be up to $25k, then maybe even $30k, depending on what happens in September 2024. Then in January, it’ll be back down to $10k.

I went through the "which truck to buy" debacle this year and I'll tell you where I landed and why.

• I needed seating for 6 people because no way was i getting a damned minivan
• I wanted a low payment, something that if my relationship situation changed and suddenly I was reshuffling finances I wouldnt have to think about where to cut corners. Meaning sub 20k vehicle really.
• I wanted dependability, and if I had to trade any dependability I wanted inexpensive and available parts.
• I wanted creature comforts, but I didnt need OEM, I could add them myself but I didnt want to fuck with nightmare systems to integrate.
• I wanted 4 wheel drive because this is the midwest and it might snow, sleet, hail, ice, rain, and then tomorrow it might be sunny too. (I've had to use it twice this "fall" already with road conditions, it helped me get up the damn iced hill of a road to get diapers.)

I opted for the 2012 F150 Supercrew XLT 4x4 (5.0) @ $15k with 90k miles

The 09 through 14 generation is pretty stable and I like the look, they did some updates in 2011 which is where they switched over to the 5.0 V8. As a former VR-4 owner you know I wanted that turbo, oh man I drooled, I could mod it, make gobs of power and oooooh buddy sure as shit have more repairs to do, so lets stick with the V8 and just enjoy simple displacement and not fuck with the power train.

Upgrade-ability, man ford is all about the assembly line and adding shit to this truck is cake. 135 dollars and 40 minutes of time and I had factory remote start installed. Took the key to a locksmith and they cut it, popped the glovebox and side panel by the door and plugged the module in, grabbed my forscan compatible obdII wifi adapter and my laptop, spent 20 minutes waiting for it to reset the security module because the truck had 4 keys programmed to it, setup my new keys, enabled remote start and enjoyed.

Next I'm adding a stereo with iDatalink so i can have fancy info about my truck displayed on my radio, why, because i god damn want creature comforts of fancy at a discount price and ford made it easy. I'll also use it for gps because im always driving to get kids friends and take them places and bluetooth or spotify direct because the ford sync bluetooth is flaky as fuck, I assume its because there are so many of them on the road that when another gets close enough the bluetooth gets retarded trying to negotiate who gets what channel.

I did a tune up on my truck, plugs, belts, pulleys, and it was like 120 dollars, it took me 1 hour in my driveway and the only thing I had to really move or take off was the airbox connection from the filter to the intake. Oh, and 10 minutes was me realizing i'd let the belt fall out of its path while i was dicking with the direction of the tensioner because its v8 and I dont need no stinkin' directions to bolt shit on.

Now dont get me wrong, this bitch sucks down the gas at 12ish mpg in town and 16 on the hwy, but it has a 36 gallon tank I fill twice a month driving kids to school and back and running errands and shit.

In the city I live in it would be close to 20k too, but I shop in a 500+ mile radius, I'll spend a day driving to save a grand or six. Picked it up about 30 minutes outside of Kansas City. It cost me gas and lunch on a Saturday, had my brother go up with me.

Not salvaged, had been in an accident but was repaired. I made them re align the truck because the wheel wasn't straight when you were driving straight and cut/program a second key and give me a full tank of gas, again it has a big ass tank.

Agreed. My Cayenne search expands to Texas. When the right one comes up I'll either drive with a passenger or fly depending on distance.

Been driving a 2013 in those specs for work. Some nights 10+ hours. It has 62k on it and says a 16 mpg average.

Just something cheap and reliable to get me through the next few months if the jeep is going to keep giving me issues.

All I care about is 4wd and reliable at this point.

My issue with that is I've never found a Honda I was comfortable in. I'll be driving and average of 2+hours a day 4 days a week. So comfort is high on the needs

Still toying around with this idea of a 10k truck. So far the Jeep has been good to me, but it still makes me nervous that it will break down again. Would really like to have a 3rd vehicle around the house in case we need it, and the Jeep would be the 3rd vehicle. Truck would become my daily.

Just having trouble with the idea of spending $10k on something with over 150k+ miles already on it. I know plenty make it to 300k+, but that tends to not be my luck.

Debating on raising it to closer to $15k, and putting a small down payment and get a small loan for about $10k. Then pay it off after I get a job.

Also been really debating on looking at midsize trucks for the time being as well. Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma, or Ranger. Need to see how well I fit in them. Drove a Colorado a few times for ODFW, it wasn't great, but wasn't too bad either. Last time I drove a Tacoma was in 2006, and the last time I drove a Ranger I was in high school and don't really remember it much.

I think I am going to stop by one or two of the local carmax tomorrow and sit in some of the mid-size trucks they have. Get a feel to see if that is even an option.

Not to be a downer but you're not going to get into a current generation Ranger/Taco/Canyon for that price point.

I also feel your pain on what you get for 10-20k in a used truck/suv now.
