Underbody doesn't look too bad once you pull the undertrays off.

I find the styling trend toward 'angularity' too often falling on the slightly overwrought side for my taste.

Putting lines on a car should have a limit - I think they should always emphasize the horizontal aspects without conflicting with the vertical.

But - what do I know?

Not a candidate to buy one...

Next time, buy a Honda, so you don't make the same mistake, damnit.

Troo enuf.

I overstep, people are offended, and it doesn't matter anyway.

In any case, I have no cucumbers or bananas, so it's all good. ;)

So one of the most divisive issues with this car is the DCT. There's a very vocal crowd that says they don't want anything to do with an "automatic", and they're still hopeful GM will release a traditional manual despite the fact the car's structure can't accommodate one.

I don't consider a DCT to be an automatic. To me, an automatic has a torque converter and a valve body and planetary gears. I haven't driven one yet that's anywhere close to being as responsive as a manual trans.

A DCT is a computerized manual. Yes, it has an automatic mode. But the guts are still a helical syncromesh gearset, it's got all the control of a manual, and faster and more responsive than traditional automatics or manuals.

These people are just so hung up on having that lever to play with. I don't know if it's a bunch of old farts who are scared of change or what.

Not me.

This would seem to be the best of all possible worlds.

I prefer a manual over a traditional auto, to be sure...this is different, in all the ways a transmission should be. ;)

The DCT is 80% or so of how they are getting such quick acceleration out of that car. The rest is probably E-diff with Z51. Being able to transfer torque through both trans shafts at the same time and flip over the shift is a huge advantage over the previous generation auto (which I personally think is fantastic) and WAY quicker than a manual transmission.

I'm over the whole "Look at me - I'm rowing gears!" thing.

Just a bunch of guys that want to rest their hand on a shaft and knob.

I think the dct is a solid option and an looking forward to seeing if it holds up

My old boss had a base C7 with the manual trans and he was ragging on me for having the A8 auto in mine. We're not in the same state, so eventually I met him in Phoenix for a meeting and he took me for a ride in his car and the slowness of his shifts were just agonizing. In my 3000GT I'm pretty quick on the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts when dragracing, and his "racing" shifts felt like at least 3 times as long as mine. It was sad... Yeah, my car would've smoked him in a really bad way for sure.

If you want to play around with knobs - manual is the way to go. If you actually want to go quick and concentrate on the road then the automatic is the way to go now. The modern stuff is pretty damn good. Not slushy, not sloppy, doesn't hunt around for gears, stays in the powerband when you want it to, and very quick.

I SOOOOOO want to get one. Mid engine is long overdue. I asked my wife if I could trade in my Mustang GT for the Vette, and she said I could trade in my Mustang for a minivan. So yeah.

Also, I don't think it will fit my hockey gear. :(

Hockey gear should fit fine in the passenger seat. :)

Maybe in the back if your sticks aren't much longer than a bag of golf clubs.

I've primarily driven manuals for reliability, and for responsiveness. There may be some modern automatics that are just as responsive, but I haven't driven one. I'd happily give up the actual act of shifting as long as the unit is reliable and performs well.

I wonder how many of these crybabies are the only-on-Sunday waxer types? I daily my car most of the year, which means I sometimes have to deal with stop and go traffic. I don't need to suffer for my art  Being able to flip it to auto would be a blessing rather than a threat to my masculinity.

My mercedes 5 speed autos are fantastic. The 7 speed isn't as responsive. I'd take an auto or DCT any day of the week. Maybe I'm just old.
