2020 C8 Corvette Stringray

Post by mjannusch »

Supposedly the reveal is at 8:00pm pacific time on July 18th.

I'm cautiously excited, but know my car will probably drop in value $10k or so the moment it is announced if they didn't screw up the C8 (I doubt they did). I'll probably save up for when the Z06 model shows up (which is supposed to be a twin-turbo V8 with around 700HP), and get in in convertible trim. I think I'm done racing, and will just get one to blast around the back roads with.

Should be interesting to see the new styling, how they set up the mid-engine, and what the convertible looks like (supposed to be a retractable hard-top that folds into a compartment behind the rear bulkhead somehow).

They know all the old men in Florida will buy them anyway so wont matter that they are asleep. Allows them to pander to the CA buyers.

Sure seems that way... I’m not sure why they wouldn’t do it on a Saturday instead. Won’t matter though.

probably.

that being said, are V8s even allowed in Cali anymore? I would think the entire car or at least parts of it would be on their list of things that cause cancer. :p

Lots of speculation, but not much concrete. Engine cad drawings supposedly leaked for the Z06 motor, a couple photos of the bumper covers, etc. They had a camouflaged version at the Corvette museum a couple months ago that people have photos of, and some test mules driving around. Not much solid.

it's a sorta inside joke. there's a group that would basically say that unless it's an 800hp BMW then there's not point in owning it.

Good, maybe I can pick up one that was totaled but actually just fine for a cheap price.

#yeahright like it would be cheap enough for me to buy.

90% of Vette buyers don't even stomp on the loud pedal, so I doubt people will be wrecking them left and right. Though they've said that this version will be more targeted at a "younger" crowd - which I guess means people in their 40s??

I, however, beat on mine anytime I'm driving it. :)

stats?

I'm basing this on people not knowing how to handle a mid engine RWD car due to the lack of that type of car on the road.

they're going to go into a corner to hot, slam the brakes and go spinning. bank on it.

Not sure about your area, but around here all I see is gray-haired people driving Corvettes. On the way to the Upper Midwest Gathering this year, I got stuck behind a caravan of Corvettes maybe about 20-25 cars and every single last one was 60+ and driving EXACTLY the speed limit and they were using both lanes so it took forever to get past them. That's typical around here. Maybe it is different in warmer climates.

I bet the electronic nannies on the new car will save a lot of people a crash. They work really well on the C7, and are likely improved on the C8. But yeah, there's always a few guys who manage to destroy a new car. That's not unique to Corvette.

old guys in the Z06 and high trim Vettes. everyone else in the base models etc.

generally speaking people can't drive. that gets worse when you throw in the curve ball that is a mid-RWD.

There's nothing 'supposed about it. It starts at 7:30.

https://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en ... vette.html

This is probably about 90% accurate.

The interior leaked a while ago.

Image

The option sheets leaked a couple months ago. Updated 6.2L LT2 engine, a couple new options like a front end lift. Basically the same as the current Stingray, but with the engine in the back.

The majority of the info is out there. The reveal will mostly be confirming things and showing the last few details.
