For the record, I couldn't give a shit less about colleges and college sportsball. I just think it's fun to tweak the people who do. Also, Pop Evil is great and that's a good song.

Funny how far people take self identification and sports that they have no influence on. Never fully jumped on that train.

At least Aaron actually went to MSU. Since I've moved to KC, I've come to the conclusion that either KU has a lot of alumni, or they've made a booming business in selling merchandise to people obsessed with a school they never attended. I want to kick that fucking bird mascot in his obnoxious little beak.

I don't see nearly the same kind of obsession with K-State or Mizzou. There was some of that with U of M and MSU when I lived in MI, but nothing like it is with KU here.

Michigan is like KU in Michigan, if you take a good look at it. Basically people who are MSU fans, are MSU fans because they went there, or someone in their immediate family went there. All the K-State and Mizzou fans I know, went there. All the KU fans I know never went there

Most Michigan fans have zero ties to the school, and like them because they are good at sports. For example, one of the sons (Mikey) on Orange County Choppers is a huge Michigan fan, yet he never went to the school, and is from New York...

It's honestly the same here in Arkansas too. Damn near everyone is a Razorback fan, but a lot of that has to do with there being no professional sports teams to follow in Arkansas either.

At least with a vehicle you purchase you can make improvements to it and it can be a reflection of your skill or identity. Collegiate sports that you aren’t playing in or have a direct influence on lack that key element IMO.

The same could be said about professional sports as well. But at least there the idea is they're representing an entire city rather than a place that's supposed be about education rather than semi-professional sports.

Pro league is even less disconnected. I guess if you want to count tax revenue and added foot traffic sales for the area then cheer away. Otherwise nothing fans do will influence how the team or brand performs. So why get so caught up? Dont get me wrong I like sports and have my teams, but knowing all the stats and getting into arguments about it carries no logic with me as I realize its only for fun and I have to influence on the outcome of it.

You can say the same about car makers as well. "Yea, Im a Ford guy and always have been". Like them all you want, but you liking them doesn't change their day to day operations. You have little to no stake.

Just look at Mitsubishi. Make some great products over the years. People even have tattoos on their bodies as they have chosen to associate themselves with a brand. Guess what Mitsubishi doesn't make performance cars anymore and they dont care about your tattoo.

I read/heard a sports opinion piece basically saying you can "we" a college or HS sports team if you or a child went there, but unless you are a employee or owner of a pro sports team it's never okay to "we" a pro sports team. I kinda agree with it. It honestly kinda bugs me when I hear people here talking about how "we're" not a good team referring to the SF Giants or 49ers.

I can say we about MSU and the Green Bay Packers.

Legit stock holder for Green Bay (so are my parents and sister)! So I can say we when referring to them. That’s right. I’m an NFL owner. Jealous?

It's pretty awesome. I get invited to the shareholders meeting every year, and get to vote for the GM etc. every year. Plus I get to say I'm an NFL owner, even if it is only a 0.0000199% share

Packers fans are the exception. Some, like yourselves, actually have a stake. Do you get paid dividends?

No, it's not like a true stock. No dividends, can't be traded, etc. Just means I'm a part owner.
