Speaking of 3d printers. My dads new one is amazing.

What'd he get? I have a Prusa Research I3 Mk3 with multi-material feeder (5 different filaments auto-loading). Works great! I just got the multi-material upgrade put together and made a few test prints with it and it seems to work. Big thing I wanted it for was to do water-soluble support interfaces on the fly instead of having to break off PLA, and just general multicolor prints.

Also bought a very expensive 3d scanner. So now I need to dive into it all and figure out how to use it.

I finished working out all the harness details, and pinned up the Infinity side connector. I do have 4 more connections to make for the AEMnet connector (12v, ground, CAN+ and CAN-). I understand that CAN is supposed to be run over twisted pair, so I need to figure out how I want to accomplish that. I guess I could take some CAT 6 and run it over that. Maybe just combine a couple pairs for the power and ground. I don't actually NEED power/ground in my AEMnet, but if I wanted to plug in my AEMnet gauge temporarily then I'll need a power feed to that via the AEMnet connector anyways. The end-game is to run AEMnet into my new kick-ass display and power it off the AEMnet, if possible.

I don't necessarily need AEMnet at all to start the car up, as one of my wideband sensors can plug right onto the Infinity harness. If I want dual sensors, I will have to interface one of my X-series inline wideband controllers anyways, so might as well just use the two of those that I already have. That'll also keep the current draw from the Infinity lower, so I can easily run it straight off the stock harness and power feeds.

I'm waiting on some heat shrink tubing to start soldering up the 3S end of the harness. I could probably make-do with some that I already have, but the diameter may be a bit on the large side, so tighter tubing would be better.

Progress.

I really don’t understand how people are that good with so many small connections that can come out while you are putting all together. I hated even swapping over two wires on my ecu harness. Screw this. Lol.

I've just manually twisted wires together for CAN connections. If you look at how the manufacturers do it, it's nothing fancy at all. If you're just running this around behind the dash, it shouldn't be too hard.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Just an old network guy that always forced our cabling contractors to do a good job and had to set the example. A good portion of that harness was from AEM, the white stuff and the 4-wire for the IAC is what I added. Probably about 14 wires. These AMP connectors are cake to work with though - very easy to insert your wires.

We'll see if I can make the 3S side as clean. There's no wire management there like there is on the AMP connector, so that's trickier. It is all in how you lay out the wires.

Yeah, I might just strip the sheath off another 4-wire cable and twist the CAN wires and call it good for the AEMnet connections.

You don't need to twist the power and ground. Just the CAN-H and CAN-L.

Yup, should be easy. Probably don't even need to twist it for the short runs that I'll be using. It is all just under the center dash area. Daisy-chain from Inifinity (with 120 ohm terminator built in), to X-series wideband for rear, to X-series wideband for front, up to center gauge area for my crazy CANbus display contraption, terminator on the end. Maybe 2' of length, 3' tops.

Already talked with Antero about possible integrations between LCDBC and Infinity and/or my display unit.

I'm excited about the display project - I have some seriously cool ideas for it. Parts for that should start arriving tomorrow.

Sounds like my wife and son are going snow tubing tomorrow, so I might have some spare time to work on the wiring harness. I've put in a little time recently on the gauge display device, and have decided to use an ESP32 microcontroller with three TFT displays driven by SPI. Should work well. My initial tests look pretty good as far as graphics speed, but I'll want to write some libraries myself to make it look good. Text only would be easy. Text plus simple bar graphs would also be easy. Sweeping 3-D looking gauges may be somewhat tricky, but do-able.

I need to figure out exactly what I want those to display, where, and how. Thinking one as a sort of combo display for widebands and maybe Boost in some sort of interesting fashion. Maybe the middle one for Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, and IDC. The third one possibly just text for tracking other misc. parameters. Not sure yet...

Should have the components for the CAN transceiver next week for the ESP32.

If you happen to have a factory center gauge cluster laying around, scan that bitch for me. ;)

I tried to do it with my phone and an app, and it did sort of an okay job but hard for it to pick up the black plastic, so that part of it didn't turn out.

Still working on the harness. I 3d printed a little wire wrapping tool, but it wasn't working all that great, so I ordered a $75 professional wire wrapping tool which looks like it'll work better.

So far I only have 9 wires connected. Lots to go...

Exploring options for the digital gauges - should be cool.

I wanted the prusa, but i ended up getting a flashforge creator pro dual extruder from a friend for $250, so i couldnt really pass that up.

I don’t have one laying around. All my stock center gauges are in the dash.

If you want me to try then you can send it to me and I can give it a go. We’ve scanned a couple things and they are pretty accurate, just a little editing. To be perfect.

Can it scan clear objects? What I really need is the black plastic part that shrouds the gauge faces, and then the outer cover that has the transparent windows to really make my 3D print correct so it looks "normal". Otherwise I was just going to essentially build boxes to keep light from bleeding from one gauge to another, but if I could get the curves and radiuses correct then so much the better.

I have a few dashes laying around in the basement still. If you guys want a center gauge bezel I can yank one out.
