Re: The Half Monti
Ok. Let's argue about who has the crappier Montero
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

This is a killer price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-DODGE-RAM ... Swf15abiRR
All the old Montero service manuals I'm finding have 3 digit price tags. There's a couple of mint 85 and 86 owners manuals on there for $179.

Re: The Half Monti
You should. I've got a digital copy of the 89 Montero manual, but it's missing sections. It'll be good enough until I can find a better one.

Re: The Half Monti
I always found rock auto had decent pricing on manuals as well. Debated on getting one a couple of times for the XJ, but have always been able to find everything I need online.
Re: The Half Monti
I could get a Chilton book, but those don't come close to the level of detail the factory manuals have.

Re: The Half Monti
I want to say the FSM for the XJ was $70 new on Rock Auto. Not too bad.

Second that.

Re: The Half Monti
Found this today:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Molded-Car ... vs&vxp=mtr
I have all of my carpet, but its not in great shape. Lots of stains and starting to fall apart in some places. Not sure if I want to pull it to clean, hold out for another Monti LWB or SWB, or just buy new and be done with it.

Re: The Half Monti
That's a pretty good price. Carpet is pretty far down my list of concerns, but it's good to know it's out there.
I went through that PDF manual some more last night. It looks like it might be complete. It's just oddly organized into a bunch of separate files based on topic. Let me know if you want me to upload it.

I haven't driven in a full size, but my 2 door appears to come in at around 3,200-3,400 lbs. About on par with a SOHC 3S. It feels like a light truck. About as light as the Mighty Max (3,100 lbs).
Now i haven't pushed it due to the bad head gasket, but once again it felt as quick as my Mighty max before the swap. Plenty enough power for the road and highway.
If i can successfully repair the head-gasket then I might keep it as is for a while and focus on a lift and other cosmetics.

Re: The Half Monti
My swb auto does good. Not fast by any means but decent enough torque for what it is.
My SR goes pretty good. 1g VR4 cams actually made a fair improvement

XJ's are light and have an additional liter on the Monti, so in my guesstimate it would be a little quicker while having more torque.

http://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/1 ... matic.html
XJ:
Weight: 1490 kg / 3280 lbs
190 HP and 225 TQ
http://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/1 ... -door.html
Monti:
143 HP - 168 TQ
Weight: 1585 kg / 3494 lbs
Looks like XJ is about 2 seconds quicker to 60.

Yea, im not looking to win any races with the stock 3.0L. I just need it to run reliably for a bit. Later on I will likely put my 01 Monti 3.5L motor in it and then tackle the mountains.
