Cleaned up the extra trans over the weekend. Did I mention how bad this thing was caked with grease? Let's say the power washer put it all over my body. Lol

Dimensions look really close. The middle bolts don't cross over but you might be able to drill the v6 housing to accept them. Otherwise just use 4 so long as they match up. Jeff you might be onto something...

Had a very busy weekend. Been helping my parents move in Cali and trying to pick up some parts. As you see above Jeff and I saw a V6 MM come into the PP in my parents town, so i took off for it. I first hit up my local gem in the mountains and was able to grab a couple things. Radio bezel pictured on the top of the truck (same truck that I pulled all of my goodies from about a month ago). Bless its soul. Still had the sway bar on it, but its not identical to ours as its set up for coils.



I also got lucky in that yard and found a Montero 3.5L intake (found the coils on another rig). Pulled it in hopes that it would line up perfectly for my Mivec. Cleaned up real nice.


Finally made my way to Fairfield. Lets just say that the truck looked nothing like the picture. Whoever picked it from the waiting yard managed to wreck it. The collapsed windshield is from someone shoving the forks under the front, through part of the motor cracking it, and into the passenger dash. Then they used the drivers side as a battering ram. I had hoped to scavenge a couple parts for Jeff, but everything worthwhile was toast. Even the gear shifter in the cab was ripped out of its housing. So much damage in just 1 day. I managed to spare the grill and the fuel sending unit. Thats it. There were some Warn diff locks that I didnt have a midget allen wrench for. Oh well.


Getting the fuel sending unit out was a pain! All of the underside bolts were rusted on, so i couldn't drop the pan. Luckily i had a couple of handy screw drivers and a hammer so i could chisel back the bed. Stupid sawzaw didnt have the power to cut more than half of what i needed. Thats what i get for buying harbor freight.


Then last night I finally made my way back to Reno. Cleaned up some parts and test fitted the intake. Fits almost perfect. Need to shave off the EGR housing that touches the valve cover by about 1/4". Also found out that the opening on the intake where it meets the TB is the same dimension as our TT 3S's. That gives me hope that I can push 300 hp through a NA motor. Also with these longer runners I should get some crazy low end torque, but im wondering how much that will affect the top end with mivec kicking in? Last thing is I still need to route the goofy water coolant pipes that come from the back of the block, but I think they will work out fine. Well i might have to get crafty with the crossover unless I can find an Endeavor.

As far as the coolant stuff goes, just get Montero Sport parts. That'll route everything up front. :d ontknow:

It might be worth getting a whole Sport engine. That'll get you the accessory mounting stuff on the front too. Get the whole engine, take off all the brackets and fittings you need, then take the long block back for the core charge.

The MIVEC Pajero is rated at 246hp and 242 lb-ft. I don't know at what RPM though.

Speaking of power, I'm working on a spreadsheet that shows estimated torque at the tires for various tire sizes and final drive ratios. I'm going to add in a section to show speed at various RPM and tire sizes too.

I thought the 3.8 was always "less fabrication, easier 3.8 instal on a 3/s" type of thing. Didn't know he switched the feelings for the 3.8.

Thanks. Im at a cross roads with the accessories. The MM is set up a bit differently with all its ac and hyd steering lines, so Im wanting to keep them where they are. Problem is I dont know how well they will attach until I install them. The later Monteros have a couple of those locations swapped out. Also sucks that I have V belts.

I still have the bits from the SR block too. Im going to try and use as much as i can off of it first along with the SOHC. Problem with the SR is that its DOHC, so im expecting some problems mounting things up. The rear crossover is already a no go.

Interesting that the Pajero had that low of HP. The Eclipse and Gallant RA had 260. I like your idea on the spreadsheet. You doing it for various powerplants?

3.8 is more work. I picked up the SR block and it will now be by Mivec build with my spare heads. This motor is going in the Mighty Max. MM will get finished first.

Endeavor was transverse FWD. Eclipse, Galant and Endeavor were all based on the same drivetrains and chassis.

I was thinking you'd just take anything good and scrap the rest. I still need flares and skid plates. You need a shifter and seats and that console. The cluster alone is worth $50-100.

Well, I'm in for the parts I listed, if that helps at all.

If it was closer, I'd be very hard pressed to not buy it and swap my drivetrain over. The body looks decent.

Little update. Managed to come across a pretty rare find.

Pulled it out of a 97 Montero Sport LS. This is how I got lucky:
1) Its a leaf sprung axle, so direct swap into the MM. Most are coil
2) Its out of a 3.0L, so that means I get to keep the slightly less heavy 9" that is in mine vs the 9.5".
3) Its has the same pumpkin, so I can swap my gears on over with my limited slip I also picked up. No prob.
4) The main reason why i purchased it...OEM disk brakes. Time to move into the 21st century. This guy managed to put brand new rotors and pads on, so bonus.

The only two challenges I have is that this axle measured out to be about 2" wider. So 1" poke out on each side. I probably wont even notice. The other is the ebrake lines. MM has threaded lines that go to the actuator arm under the cab. These are like the lead circles like on our TB line that slip into the fitting.

Also want to note that this Montero also came with a manual trans. Even more rare lol. I think it might be the upgraded syncro version. If all goes well I will pull it tomorrow on 1/2 off day at PnP.

Thanks to jeffs quick research on the 97 montero in the junk yard this trans should have the upgraded syncos. It also looks to have some updated parts due to some differences to the exterior. Most of them being to the transfer case.

Being that it was half off day I picked it up in the 95 deg weather.I also took my axle back and had them pay me the difference.
