It does appear. Even a fancy switch in the cockpit. Just worried about adding a bunch of electrical weight. Ill have to strip it out to know what im up against.
The ECU would be the heaviest part if you're talking like the setup is similar to a 3/S. Wouldn't worry about that.

True. I guess it depends on the condition of the shocks and if i want to run a rats nest of wires.

Can you even buy those shocks anymore? If so how much more are they vs the traditional shock cost?

While the ECS in a 3/S is neat, I personally never missed it...

Of all the stuff we've talked about adding, that'd be pretty close to the bottom of my list. I'm kind of surprised Mitsubishi offered it at all.

I havent even bothered looking into the cost.

I'm in the same boat. Seems like more of a gimmick at the moment, but do have a slight interest brewing to find out how they really perform on an off-road vehicle.

About time for another update:

Been working on getting all the electrical figured out on the MM. Was going to first swap over a 98 Montero wiring harness, but that plan didnt pan out. Somehow I misplaced half of the harness :( I then decided that the MM harness was good enough for most all of the circuits that i needed, so i took on the task of figuring out all the pinouts on the truck. Adam had helped me update my last version of my 3s spreadsheet, so I got to work on my MM service manuals. Lets just say they were confusing and annoying to follow.

Soon after Jeff hopped aboard and ultimately beat me too it. The man has a knack for the electrical stuff. Mucho thanks go to Jeff for his help! I went to work gathering parts and building my conversion harness on Sunday. Here is about half way through:

Image

A couple items didnt line up like the MAF reset. Jeff mentioned the AC too, but I havent looked into either yet. I only wanted to get the truck started and running last night. After finishing the last wire I grabbed the bare ecu and tucked my extra leads out of the way to plug into the truck.

Image

Gave the truck a quick crank....Vroooom. Its alive! Idled better than the other ECU. Was late by then, but decided to take it around the block. Ran great, but with a little less power, but on my 3rd full stop the engine died and then died again on the 4th stop. Was easy enough to crank back over and start back up again. Likely need to get in there and do some more tuning to get it right. The truck was running a bit rich according to the exhaust.

Jeff mentioned the injectors possibly being different and initially I agreed, but some quick research has the SOHC with 210cc injectors. Mine are the same size having B210H written on the side. Wondering if latencies were different or something. At the very least the MAF's are different and I will have to toss the trash can and put in the evo one.

Anyways appreciate all the help and feedback on here so far. Having a lot of fun with this build.

If you want, I can try to build a ROM with trashcan MAF values. Those are available from the 1G DSM EPROM dumps. They have pre-built code for doing 2G MAF upgrades, so it should be cake to reverse the maps and go backward. I can disable the smog stuff while I'm in there.

If Greg's code is called Chrome, what can we call this mess?

Next problem I have been looking into is clutches. Want to get a good clutch for this truck. Centerforce makes two, a stage 1 and a dual friction. Both run about $350 and $470. Southbend is about the same They look nice, but im wondering if they will be overkill. The motor makes 270hp in stock form. I may get it up to 300 if i am lucky. With that said I dont want to go blowing money if all i really need is a stage 1 ebay kit with 272tq rating for $110 shipped.

Thoughts?

Eh, after my experiences with clutches I would rather spend more on an overkill clutch.

I had the ACT 2600 for years. After blowing out the disk (twice) I put in a cheap Advance Auto clutch and hated it. If I got hard on the throttle, like say to pass on a 2 lane, I would lose my clutch adjustment.

For the rebirth of the Stealth I already have a new ACT 2100 ready to go.

On the bright side this will not go into a 3s so it should be a bit easier to swap out.

Here is the ebay one:

I've been doing some Googling and it looks like these may just be re-labeled Exedy/Daikin clutches. IE: Factory stock.

So, not junk. But not really an upgrade either.

I got bored and did this.

Code: Select all

Model	Eng hp/tq Notes
------------------------------------------------------------
K26T	3.0	151/174 Mighty Max
Z11A	3.0	164/185 3000GT / Stealth SOHC
V45W	3.5	214/228 Montero SR DOHC
K99W	3.5	197/223 Montero Sport SOHC
V75W	3.5	200/235 Montero SOHC
V77W	3.8	215/248 Montero SOHC
V97W	3.8	246/242 Pajero SOHC MIVEC
DK4A	3.8	263/260 Eclipse SOHC MIVEC
The only difference between the SOHC 3S and the truck looks like the intake manifold and ECU. The cams, valves and heads are all the same. I'm not even sure the intake is all that different aside from the obvious FWD vs RWD shape.

I guess I have a reason to install that EPROM ECU I bought now
