After driving the Chevy Colorado that work has, I wouldn't drive one as my personal vehicle if it was given to me. Ditto for the Dodge Dakota they had before that.
All gave some, some gave all.
America is not at war, the US military is. America is at the mall.
There's nothing quite like the feeling of coming back from a deployment to a warzone.

Are you talking about this Colorado...Richard wrote:After driving the Chevy Colorado that work has, I wouldn't drive one as my personal vehicle if it was given to me. Ditto for the Dodge Dakota they had before that.

Or this Colorado?

The first one was pretty crappy. The new one is actually pretty good, if all the reviews are worth anything.
I think about all the things we could have done, all the miracles we could have achieved, if we were all just a little bit better than it turns out we are.

Re: Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?
The newer one. Did the reviews mention that the engine heat fails to vent out the back of the hood like it does in every other car I've ever seen? That 'feature' of the Chevy is incredibly annoying in Eastern ID where the windshield wipers will get frozen solid while the vehicle is parked, then fail to thaw while the engine is running.

Re: Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?
The new one is too new to know if it's crappy or not. Give it 5 years or so and it'll live up (down) to the standards set by its predecessor

Re: Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?
Went and check one out yesterday at the dealer. They didn't have any diesel on the lot (still a few months out) but they had the new gas powered ones there. Some notes:
*It's about the same size as the new Tacoma which is about the size of any early 90s full size pick-up which is what I was going for.
*It didn't appear "cheap" on the inside. They did a good job of at least styling it to look good. I question the paint quality of most modern vehicles though. Panel fit was good too unlike the modern Dodge trucks....
*touch display is awesome and so is the stereo.
I found out you get a tax rebate for buying a diesel vehicle too. Thought those all expired years ago but they're still around. I will probably at least test drive one when the diesel version comes onto the lot.
On the flip side, I also looked at and test drove the new ECO-Boost F150 and absolutely loved it. They had a 2014 with 25k on the lot that I almost bought on the spot. It's a lot bigger than what I want and also doesn't get the mileage of the diesel but all around it was a great truck. Seems Ford warranties on used vehicles are better than new ones too oddly.
So here are my options for now (aside from illegally importing a Hilux from Brazil). Will wait a few months to save up more $$ before jumping on either.

The EcoBoost gets pretty bad real MPG doesn't it? Thought I read that they are significantly overrated.

Re: Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?
They have an ecoboost F150 for a service truck at work. Recently, at 90k miles the pinion bearing went out in the rear end and had to be replaced.

Re: Chevy Colorado Diesel?!?
We have a lot of eco boosts in my company. Mileage is overrated, but they still perform well with few issues. I almost got one myself, but got the 5.0 instead. I actually get about 1-2 MPG better than them.

The Jeep Wrangler Pick-Up coming out is supposed to have a diesel option as well I believe.

I bet it's something to do with emissions. I bet they don't want to look like idiots.

I was wondering that too. Like maybe they were guilty of EPA cheat software but pulled back production before it got sold. ....but their spokes person denied that to be the case.
My guess is they found some quality issues and are resolving them. Might explain the silence.

Speaking of emissions. It seems Chevy has a new approach towards dealing with that in the form of injecting a mixture of urine, DI water and ammonia to burn out NOx. It's called Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and maintaining it is as simple as filling up your windshield washer fluid.
During the philly car show last weekend I spoke to a rep about the production delay and it turns out the issue has been importing the engines. The 4cyl Duramax is sold in pretty much every continent except North America so the hassle has been getting the things over here. It took them 4 years just to get them compliant with Americas stricter standards.
Still not sure if I should get one. I will definitely use it and the fuel milage (if accurate) would be the biggest bonus, but damn that's a lot of $$$$....

This isn't new, nor is it something Chevy came up with.Greg wrote:It seems Chevy has a new approach towards dealing with that in the form of injecting a mixture of urine, DI water and ammonia to burn out NOx.

Watch as you drive past new-ish medium and heavy duty trucks. Look for a small storage tank with a blue cap near the fuel tanks.

Never heard of it before.
Wonder if it could be adapted to cars.
