Did a little digging in ASA tonight.

The Max was only available with a 5MT on the V6 models. That 5MT interchanges with the 83-91 Montero (L14x chassis code).

However, the L14x Montero had the option of a 4AT tranny. So it stands to reason that it'd be possible to swap a Montero auto tranny into a Max fairly easily.

I'm guessing a lot more stuff will interchange. What I'd really like to see is what can be retrofitted from newer V4x (91-99) and V7x (00-06) Monteros. The V4x model is a lot easier to find.

My ideal truck would be a Mighty Max body and chassis, driveline gear from a V4x Montero, and then a mix of 3000GT and V7x Montero engine parts.
Makes sense that the auto trans would fit. The white 91 mm that I posted with the auto would be a perfect candidate. Would need to have the correct wiring harness though. I was thinking about using the 150k mile auto in my SR if I couldn't get the molar unit repaired easily.

I just realized this thread has 317 replies, and you're the only one that actually has a truck

Had a pretty good day today. Went to the premium mitsubishi yard and found a few things after the guys at the front desk had a difficult time knowing what was in their own yard.

First off I found what is the coveted sport cluster. Aparently it is pretty hard to find. Has tach, oil pressure, volt, temp, etc. Sadly the guy who wrecked the truck put part of his face into it. I've got both for reference.

Also found a tow receiver on the same truck so I grabbed it. It's a light duty but I think I can beef it up some. Tried looking for aftermarket ones earlier but to no avail.

Also found out that they picked up about 4 6g75s. One being a Mivec. I was hoping the endeavor ones had the non crossover oil pumps. Read somewhere that some didnt. Maybe it's the more current years. Also confirmed that the block's are identical when it comes to the front motor mount location. Just as crappy in that sense.

Now i need to pull my SR block to see how bad the damage is and if I need to pick up another.

That's a nice, square gauge cluster. It'd be cake to do a custom surround and install some nice aftermarket gauges.

Yes it would. Plenty of room behind as well. For now though the sport unit will work nicely.

Finally grabbed a pic of the hitch now that the sun is out. Trying to figure out if its a Class I or II. Didn't see any markings.

Just visited the Mitsu yard again for some odds and ends and hit up the engines on the rack. Im not sure everyone knew but the 02 6g74 Montero (full size) has the oil filter on the correct side and it has the bosses for the front motor mount (some need tapped). Awesome! Wonder what other years on the Montero will work. I know the 04 and 05's with the 6g75 will not work as those are identical to the Eclipse's.

Not cheap but they come out of running vehicles with detailed info (odometer, cyl comp, know issues, donor car pics). Most are around $1k to buy. I think there was an 06 Mivec in there for $1,100.

I have not shipped a motor, so I have no idea. I would suspect $500 or more. No core needed.

Keep it up.

Installed the new radio surround/bezel and radio. Decided to keep it oem with the 02 galant radio. Kind of like the simple and square theme the truck has going for it. Actually sounds good with the two dash speakers. Lol.

Wanted to mention that I found a perfect cluster cover for the MM over the weekend in CA. Even didnt come with the trip reset button, which is what i needed as the odometer is staggered on the Sport model. Well i spent an hour cleaning it up, and drilling a hole in just the perfect spot. Started with a small bit to facilitate an easy shot with the second larger bit. Well...it started well, but quickly caught the bit and spider cracked everything.

Super bummed.

Why do you need the plastic protective? I've never hit mine.

Also anyone know if the convertible was an option?

I'm not going to drive around all redneck, willie-nilly without it. Its there to keep dust, fluid, and contaminants out of your cluster.

I looked in ASA last night. It was not an option, at least in the US. I didn't check the overseas databases.
