Finally Jeeping again!

Post by ChargerX3 »

A couple weeks ago I was able to visit my sister up in Idaho. She has been helping me store the Jeep for the past year as it was in the elements at my parents for the previous 2. Had a great time visiting with her and her family. She just finished cancer surgery and is doing much better.

Well the wife ponied up and said "why dont we take that back with us this trip". I was a bit worried as I had not touched the thing in ages. Other than a toast battery and a slight startup idle issue, she ran great. I could tell the wife was really falling in love with it as I was the first person to ever take her 4x4ing. She drove it all the way back and rather enjoyed it.

Sunday I was itching to test it out. We have a slight mountain range that runs through Reno and Sparks NV. We hopped in and i proceeded to make her sweat. Lol. Most of these pics dont show the elevation or grade, but dont let that fool you. We put it through its paces.

Anyways pics... :D

Awesome!!

We still need to break in the FJ properly with some off roading.

very cool to see a jeep in its natural habitat. :)

Classic jeep, love it. I also find it funny your picture is darkest where the sun actually is. Haha.

You should look into that soon. Wheeling in the snow is another animal. I wouldn't recommend going that route first. Have any suspension aspirations in the future?

My brother had one. Great wheelbase and feel overall. Wont be disappointed. Ive always liked the XJ's as they can carry more gear and double as a family car.

Thanks. We are all very glad to hear she is doing better. Yea, the jeep does look good in pics, but in real life she is near mint too. I got lucky with this one.

She is the Trail Teams edition so it is actually decently set up as is. It has the Bilston/TRD off road shocks with remote reservoirs and some nice BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires already. Only plans are to install a skid plate to help against being a dumb ass.

Other than that, cat back, intake call it a day....possibly the super charger in the future, since it will help with towing. :)

ha ha I mean the hills and stuff, they just don't look nearly as intimidating in pictures. The Jeep looks great, none look as good around here. It's all rocks and trees so everyone has beat the shit out of them.

Hop on the bus. Its not like they are all super expensive. I literally stole mine. Look around and you can find some sweet deals.

I just finished putting my wife's XJ back together. Cracked the plastic tank on the side of the radiator. Lost all the coolant, oil pressure dropped, and over heated. Replaced the radiator, changed the oil, and did a compression test. Cylinder 3 came back with low compression. Did a leak down test and couldn't find anything too worrisome. Put each cylinder at tdc and ran compressed air through to see if I could hear or see any leaks. Was worried with the overheating and loss of oil pressure that the head or head gasket might have went. Everything came back ok though. Will be taking it out tonight to see how it runs.

We plan on putting better bumpers, a roof rack, a 2" lift, and my Rubicon wheels with 31s on it next year if money permits.

Im going for a high clearance skid, and a 3" lift on mine to fit 33s.

My wrangler is the 5th jeep I've owned.

They might not be the best, but I love them.

Here is hers.

We let it sit for almost 2 years at one point. Fired right up after a battery change.

Those pics make my wife jealous. Lol.

Clean looking rig! Looks good.

Oh, but they are the best. Mine used to look much like yours. Plenty of room to grow with that one. I recommend Rubicon Express with all new springs if you can swing it. I have their 3" which is really about 5" of lift. Also get the swaybar disconnects.

That is what I was going to do on my xj but I sold it. My wife's xj won't see too much off roading. Just for camping and stuff.
