Tales (and pics) from the junkyard

Post by Jeff V. »

It's no secret that I'm a junkyard troll. I'm there almost weekly, scouting parts to keep our fleet running...and just because I'm fascinated by the wrecks.

I often see weird, unique stuff there. It's time we had a thread :)

Let's start off with a real winner. I found this in the trunk of a Galant when I was looking for a remote door lock module. Thankfully, it was just an empty box

Image

Next up was a 91 Stealth ES. I've seen a few cheesy body kits, but I don't think I've ever seen one with these fake exhausts.

Image

The front and rear bumpers were stock, though the gray strip was painted red. It also had the 2-leg, no light aftermarket wing on it.

Then there was this thing. It's some kind of kit car, but I've never seen one like it before. Do any of you guys know what it is? The proportions make me think it's Fiero based, or something completely custom. The interior was pretty bare, and the seats were covered in generic brown sheep-fleece covers

I've got to admit though....it was kind of neat, at least by the standards of low end kit cars.

No picture, I was scrounging for an amp out of a Dodge Avenger one day when i came across a little orange balloon wrapped really tight. Had my gloves on, so i picked it up and noticed something was in the middle. Thought to myself no way...is it?, so i unwrapped it. Had a nice stinky black rock at the center. Shit smelled really bad, so i tossed it and got back to picking cars.

Whenever you use forceful and overt verbal persuasion to try to convince others to see things your way, they're probably not listening to what you say, Instead they're looking for every error in you your logic and mistakes in your facts, all the while constructing counterarguments. Worse still, they don't merely believe you're wrong; they need you to be wrong in order to protect the status quo. THis is why I can't wait for fall. I love going to the yards, but this summer has been so hot I just get in, get what I need and get out. No walking around the last few times.

That looks like a Bricklin to me... or like someone was trying to make/mod one.

I saw one about a month ago  I took the badge off it and stuck it on my toolbox. I think I've got a pic on my other memory card. I'll try to find it.

I'm actually really digging that kit car.

Looks like it is Vette based to me.

It looks a lot like a modified Sterling.

Except the one I saw had gull wing doors instead of the big canopy. The air intakes are quite a bit different too.

I thought the same thing. The shape just screams 1978 vette lol
[thestealth] It's not every laborador-sized mammal that gets a damned APC named after it, but the Honey Badger isn't your typical member of the Mammalia class. He's a brutal, vicious killer who kicks asses, never backs down, never registers fear, destroys everything in its path and then adorably trots off into the sunset with his prey in his teeth and the severed nutsacks of his enemies still gripped between his dagger-like claws. It's a badass animal.

Hmmm... maybe someone started building a Sterling kit (like this one) then abandoned it?

On a related note, I test drove and considered buying a Sterling at one time... but it was this kind of Sterling:

It's a Cimbria.

http://www.sterlingkitcars.com/history_ ... le_cm.html

It's an unauthorized modification of the Sterling.

In the really bad wrecks in junkyards I will go and look for blood. I have yet to find any. Is that bad?

I've found some.

Worst one I saw was one where it was obvious someone hit the windshield.

I bet the really bad wrecks don't go to your normal junkyards if there is too much human bits to make it biohazarous.
