S10 V8 swap

Post by Nazarah »

Has anyone ever done this?

I know where I can pick up an S10 Blazer for more than a decent price - and this might be kind of a fun project!

I've only really heard of people doing it though. I don't know what all goes into it. I see kits that you can buy that include new motor mounts and headers. If that is all that has to be done, it will not be that bad.

Famous last words.
I've been around cars for quite a while...and never have I witnessed a completed engine swap where the owner said "it wasn't that bad" :p

It has been done. My friend from high school did it. I don't remember if he had to do any body modification though, but it can be done. He said that it was worth it. I am sure you can find a write up somewhere online.

there are a few 350 S10s in town- from the looks of the people driving them, it can't be that hard
I had one of them (longbox with big meats on the back) try to race me from a roll...I think he learned that smoking your tires everywhere doesn't mean your truck is fast :p

I am actually more interested in building something for off road out of it, rather than racing.

An S10 Blazer should be rather light, it's 4x4, and *could* have a 350 in it! =D

People put V8's in Jeep Cherokee's all the time. You would have a great off-road platform with the Jeep. Plus, if you get a Jeep with the I-6, that is pretty much an indestructible motor. They last FOREVER!

I've seen V8 S10's. We have a V8 Ranger. Fun little truck for sure. Has an older 289 out of a Mustang. Bored 30 over, cam'd, 9in rear end with full posi 4.11's.

Be prepared for no traction. Shall I dare post pictures of an 88 with a 460? lol My grandpa is crazy.

Sorry for the big pictures, the truck is about finished, I'll get more recent pictures around labor day. Headers etc are all done, looks really good.

I can't say what the Ranger will end up doing, he thinks the suspension will work out. I have seen this pull the front tires off the ground though

Theres a 9sec Mustang in there, and I think a Fiero w/ a 454 stuffed in the back. If the Fiero isn't on there I'll have to try to scan some pictures
