that's a stock 1.6L miata engine.

I have the 1.8L with OBDI ('94). Plan is to pick up motorcycle ITB's, design the bracketry/manifold myself and have the machine shop down the street make it, and keep it EFI with something like a megasquirt. It's gonna be a challenge but i'm excited :D there's lots of research/development in my future. could be headwork/cams included depending on budget.

anywho, i'm not usually one to talk about it rather than just doing it, but I thought it might be interesting to share the development with you guys.

I don't think he's planning on putting this into a 3000GT hahaha, especially if he already has a 1.8L engine ;)

Shoulds be an interesting project...it will sound cool and look bad ass, but what kind of gains will you get for all of the work?

A set of ITBs from a Hayabusa or maybe even Gixxer 1000 should be enough I would think, those are pretty cheap :)

HAHAHAHA! bingo! i have a miata now (still working on selling the stealth).

with stock internals/headwork, i might see 150ish whp which would put me close to a stock TT 3S in lb/hp but it's not the sort of project where you're going for top power. basically, without internals, i'm looking at about a max of 20% gain in peak power over stock, maybe 30% w/ cam/headwork.

my main goals for the car are auto-x and some track days/hpde type events. since the biggest gain from a setup like this is in the throttle response and shape of the powerband, its great for performance driving other than drag.

just like you said, i'm looking to pick up motorcycle ITB's then mate them with a custom manifold. I want to take a shot at some intake runner crossovers and if i'm feeling really frisky, I have some ideas for variable length trumpets.

example of a nice kit w/ install pics: http://www.thebluepotato.net/engineframes.htm

I dyno'd a 2005 miata with intake and exhaust work and it made 150 rwhp. I dunno if the engine setup's are different, but it would be a lot easier to just do the intake and exhaust if you are looking for only 150 :)

thanks for the input, but you completely miss the point. :)

there's some significant differences between the 94 and 05 motor also.

Hence why I said "I dunno if the engine setups are different or not"

Yeah, those cars really need about 200 crank HP to be fun, otherwise they just feel kinda slow to me. Much better as an NA car too, so projects like this are great.
