Closed-Loop Knock
I know it helps a lot to have a log of things like this, but all I've got is what the ScanMaster told me, so bear with me. My TMO datalogger is an hour away.
I've been tracking down little issues ever since my fudged race motor build. So far I've fixed the horrible idle, the sputtering exhaust, etc. What I'm looking at now is the constant yet random knock counts I get while cruising down the road with the TPS between 25-48%.
It seems to happen more often than not when the car is going up a hill. The knock counts haven't been alarming, usually somewhere between 1-8 counts, but every now and then it'll hit 15 (or those faux knock counts I see on it every now and then like 83 or 128). The O2's ramp up and down as per usual, and the only way to make the knock go away is to either give it enough gas to get the O2 voltage constant or let go of the throttle until the TPS is under 25%. WOT pulls give me a steady .94-.96v and 0 counts of knock all the way to 7,000.
I know it's not a huge threat to my motor, but I'd like to take care of it so the ScanMaster will quit bugging me. I've got poly motor mounts and a meticulously cared for motor. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the spark plugs being gapped incorrectly. It's almost time to replace them anyways so I'll pick up a set Wednesday to see if it helps. Any other thoughts?

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
I wouldn't be concerned about it at all to be completely honest with you, however, if you check out my Basics thread stickied at the top of this section, I get into detail why that happens (I'm aware you have an NA, same rules apply).

The range of RPMS you cruise at (1500-3500rpms) is also the range where engine load is the greatest. This is why, when you give it enough gas to go into open-loop, the knock goes away. This is also why any studdering or hic-ups your car would have, happens in this range.

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
Ah welcome to my universe. I have random knock which I have pretty much cleared up. A hard drive yesterday netted me 5 counts MAX, which is fine for me.
Get all the bad gas out, use some dry heat, and then I did an injector cleaner. Then start running some good gas through there, and hopefully that helps. How are the VSS and head gaskets? I would worry about burning the slight amount of oil. Fixing that helped me out a lot as well.
What motor mounts are you using? Those also make a ton of difference

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
Bob (ek2)'s custom mounts. I just put them on, so I doubt that's it. The motor has almost no give when revving.
All I've ever run in it since I got it was 93, I'll pick up some injector cleaner for my next fill-up, haven't run any of that in awhile.
VSS seem to be ok. I've let it idle for a long while and then rev'd the motor up to be greeted with minimal smoke.

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
mine has basically no give, and I run the 3SX poly mounts. Minimal smoke is still some smoke, which is more than you really want for best results.
injector cleaner isn't a bad idea, then run some dry heat too, I suspect moisture in the tank could be a problem. Especially this time of the year

I think Terry's hurt we didn't order his solid mounts.
I ended up buying EK2's as well.

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
I was definetly torn that between them. I like the poly mounts, but I was sold on the solid mounts. When I got them, it was a trade for doing a timing belt. The other person didn't like dealing with Maximal (Terry this isn't me, and I in no way shape or form had any dicatation over his choice), so he ordered me new mounts from 3sx. I wanted solid mounts originally, but these are actually pretty nice

Re: Closed-Loop Knock
I was running Terry's mounts, then I went to the race grind cams. IIRC Terry only ran those tiny little street cams.

I've still got them in a box somewhere, I'll have to dig those up. That motor's still on my to-do list as well. Bah.

Could you PM me a reason...leave out names if that'd make you feel better about doing it but I'm just curious why that was the case.
