Actually its a capacitor, and if your radio doesnt have any interference you dont really need it

So it could run with out it? My friend lost his in his NA and that thing was mis firing like a mofo.
Also, a bigger problem I have encountered is my A/C compressor tensioner pully is not going to work with my new 4 bolt block. I know you can modify it as John Monnin said on his website, but he didn't post any pictures of it and the directions are a little vauge. Does anybody know how to do it?

As far as i know the only difference is the 'shaft' that one of the bolts goes through is much shorter on the 2nd gen, so in theory you could just cut yours shorter, but i dont know the exact dimension

That capacitor is for filtering out electrical noise. Personally, I'd replace it at some point. There's not need to do it immediately though.

The next logical question is... what was he doing that he took off the noise filter/capacitor? He may need to recheck his work. I'd start by making sure you are 1000% certain he plugged the wires into the correct coils.

I forgot, he didn't lose that and plug it in, he just didn't plug that thing in, and that is why it wasn't running correctly. But that was the past, and the NA runs great today (hence why I couldn't remember correctly)
Anyways, we found one, so problem solved.
