Change your 3si name to Maximal Performance
I am with Jack and Zent until a recent post by you I never associate your name with your shop... What I mean is I associated Terry (also your name here) with your shop. Your 3SI name isnt as recognized as the other guys. Most everyone refers to the shop owners by name and they pimp their shops like mad. Banners in the sig, logo on the avatar.... You need more name recognition. Not to say that your name "Terry" isnt recognized, hell I learned you were pimpin a fast nitrous car when I first hit the boards, later on I learned that Terry was also the owner of Maximal Performance.... however it took even longer to put the two together.
Things to do:

1. Whore products more. Everytime I get something new there is a post in general about it.

2. I might change my board name to Maximal and add a catchier banner to my sig.

3. Appears as if people haven't seen my banner so I'll make an animated gif that gets more attention. I personally hate them but if it gets people to notice them it's worth it. Plus I should be able to list more of what I offer in the banner.

4. Come out with new products. I have a list of things I want to do but just don't have the time.

5. Give away free shit. I was doing it with shirts for a while but only on orders over $200. Maybe I'll start offering pens, keychains...something like that. I was gonna order something like that to give out at the NG anyways.

Anything else?

Terry
All great ideas, I can tell you that I notice Deft's banners because they are always changing and they catch your eye with his half hidden jokes. The next ones I notice are the TireRack ones as they change but not as much as Deft's. Oh and I dont notice them specifically because he has Melis in the pics... dont get scared, but I just dont find her attractive.... I did notice his banner though because she is recognizable to us who have been there a while and seeing her face in the banner caught my eye. Shit I watched it every time it came up just to catch what it was saying... then i got the "Because Melis wears our shirts" and I went on. Then there was the Audibles head on a stick sale... etc, etc, etc.
Chocolate Coins! You could have one "Sweet Summer" sale. :p
One problem... chocolate coins + summer = melted chocolate coins... were you not ever a kid, dont you remember getting those coins and playing with them like they were money, eating them one at a time. Those bitches melt easy. ^ bad marketing... BAD
Zent pretty much summed it up for me too...but I do think advertising and drama :sigh: are what you need more of. :p

Remember (unfortunatly) there is no such thing as bad publicity, drama goes a far way to spread your name. see IPO lol

Advertising is #1. Maximal MUST be plastered on everything you talk about/advertise. You got a great name, use it wisely. Maximal brakes, Maximal exhaust..."Use your 3S engine to it's Maximal potential". "When you think 3S perfomance, think to the Max. Maximal Perfomance"

Why do you have an intro page that says 'click here to enter'? Also, I like the design of your website, but you need more photos of products on your front page, and some color would be nice.

I do think you should change your 3si user name to Maximal Performance, or Maximal Terry. If you had other employees that post on 3si, they could have simliar names/avatar/sigs.

Your sig. I love that pic, but it says nothing about your shop, what you sell OR your logo! Free shipping? Why isn't THAT in your sig! That's awesome!

Give away free shit!
I have several ideas with this one. Have a raffle. Start a thread, offer an incentive for people to come to your site, join a mailing list...or something simliar. In exchange you will enter them into a drawing to win something big from your shop. Set a deadline. Maybe NG? Keep hypeing the thread.

As far a freebees, don't do pens. Boring, and 3sx has that puppy down. Keychains? Nope, I don't like cheap keychains, I like MY keychain. You need to find something unique, and perhaps automotive. A mini screwdriver? Hex wrench? Something every mechanic needs around their toolbox. Magnetic bottle opener for their toolbox? :D

I love your shirts, but I'd like to see your Maximal Performance T-shirts say more about what you sell...or at least a catch phrase, a business philosophy...something! Even if it IS, "Maximal Performance, your drama free 3S parts supplier. Remember funny is good. Make something that everyone wants to wear.

And if you set a medium one asided for me I'll make sure to sport it at the NG too. ;)

-Vira
GREAT IDEAS.. really are great. Listen to what she is saying Terry. I have helped one business get up and running and the most horrific part was advertising. I even did the voiceover for the commercial, it seemed gay, but people remembered it. Co-Workers who I had mentioned the business to before mentioned walking in to the livingroom because the commercial was catchy... it wasnt a geico but it was good for a small business. That catch phrase, name repitition... shit goes a long way. I know I am too far away to help or I would offer my services for free, I have been streamlining business services for ever and my fiance helped a few big companies in our area running their advertisement and web design. She has the artistic ability I have the technical ability.
Maybe something like this will help... http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=378560

Tomorrow I'll work on a new banner and sig. Give my sig some time so people recognize it and then change my username.

Vegas - As far as the site goes it has that "click here to enter" because i plan on changing that main site to include the powdercoating stuff...the cart in the store doesn't really allow me to list it easily. Yeah, that's something I need to get going on to. As far as more pictures of products on the homepage I might be able to do something. The cart software I use makes it sorta hard to edit stuff but I should be able to throw something up there.

I like the idea of giving out car stuff...creative. :)

Terry
One website I set up had a flash page intro, then all the item links to the side. After some initial tracking I noticed that people were only hitting the front page and then leaving. Took away the flash ad, replaced it with some item specials and BAM trafic for the front page moved to more traffic on internal pages. Over all traffic didnt go down but now more of the people were moving passed the front page.

Plus, anything besides the air freshener is going to seem too gimicky anyways.

Taking this thread off topic... as usual.

Thats why I start my day with an excedrin. I dont like soda much so when I need caffeine I will pop an excedrin. That nice jolt of caffeine... ahhhh... like a crack addict getting his first hit in the morning.

I think I played with caffeine too much last semester. I'd try different varieties of all-nighter helpers (try eating a big meal and taking a redline, you're good for the next ~6 hours). So caffy's on a water/Sprite kick. :(

I did a quick banner change yesterday just to get something different. It flashes some but still isn't colorful enough. I need to figure something out when I have some more time. I just suck at graphic stuff like that.

As for the gifts does everyone like the air freshner? It's different and also useful. It's something that they'll put in thier car and see everytime they adjust the vents.

I need to work on my sig also. Probably a different pic of my car with the link to my site right in it. I have it below now in plain text and it might just not be catchy enough.

As for the homepage I could direct them to the store homepage then just link to a powdercoating site from there. There isn't too much customizing I can do on my site but that's just the way it is. Unless I was to spend a few thousand on shopping cart software I couldn't get the level of customizing I wanted. I still want to make it a little flashier though and can do that.

I do that when I decide to clean up. I look at every addiction as just that, an addiction. I hit the caffeine to increase my production at work. Of course BAWC doesnt help. When I notice a caffeine headache I cut it out and take a weekend to get clean. Im a gatorade man myself.
As for the gifts does everyone like the air freshner? It's different and also useful. Perfect fit for the job, imho.

OSCommerce might not be the most advanced storefront, but for the task I'd say it's alright. There are a variety of good strong themes available for it, and modifications to the code allow it to be pretty flexible. We've got a handful of bored web-designers here as well. ;)

The only thing that I don't like about the air fresheners is that people will throw them away eventually.

Pens, and like items stick around with your all important name on them for much longer.

Otherwise, it's a decent, unique idea. :)

I actually use cubecart for a shopping cart. I've been able to put some mods on it...I do know enough PHP to get my way around with at least installing mods.

I've bought solid mounts and control arms from you. And anything else that I need, and you make/sell it, I'm definitely buying from you. I got both of my things within a business week of ordering from you, and they're both quality stuff

I'd rather buy from the smaller shops/people on the board for numerous reasons than from a big shop. I only buy from them when I have to. Individuals are just a whole lot easier to deal with and I get more satisfaction over giving them my money instead of a huge business.
