I tried searching 3si, but I couldn't find anyone with this issue.
Sometimes when I try to start my car, if I just let it sit and turn over it doesn't start.
However, I have figured out, that if I just turn it over for about half a second and drop the key before it's actually started, it starts, lugs for like a second, and then is running fine.
It doesn't happen all the time. I thought it might have only been when it was hot outside, but it did it to me one morning as well. The problem does seem to be worse when it's hot though.
The starter turns over wonderfully the whole time.
Frankly the only things I can think of are ground/power, (but that would cause issues with the starter actually turning over not starting?), or maybe some fuel issue.
I understand pretty well how the car works, but being that I've only recently started working on my cars, my troubleshooting skills aren't developed yet.

Re: Starting issue..
do you still have the stock FPR solenoid?
my 91 had this issue too. sometimes it would have long crank then slowly fire and come up. seems like its getting way too much fuel on hot starts.
i never tested it by putting the stock FPR solenoid back in and trying it. just dealt with it.

Yes. Based on the carbon deposits that were made in 2 weeks on my precats, I think it's running rich all the time. It's bored out, oversize valves, and running with stock fuel system.
I'm buying datalogging for my hybrid at the start of next week, but have no wideband as of yet, or any fuel controller anyway.

Re: Starting issue..
stock fuel pump too?
i forgot to mention. my 91 had a hotwired supra pump and stock injectors/no fuel computer. cold starts it would fire right up. hot starts it would stunble and have real low rpm. slightly puffing black smoke until it caught up.
